Just a Game (Naoki, Kei, Sayomi) - Posted Apr 27, 2018 13:32:14 GMT -7

Yukari had been planning this movie night for almost two months! It was a Saturday night, her dad was going out of town for business for the night so she had to close the coffee shop... but he gave her permission to invite some friends over to watch movies on one of the big TVs and sleep the night on the big plush bean bags set up on the side of the store where folks usually hung out. After careful deliberation she'd decided a horror movie night would be perfect! The unexpectedly rainy weather just made things even better for that kind of atmosphere! She'd prepared hand made (and pretty good too!) sushi for a snack to stash in the store fridge and stocked up on snacks and drinks.
The fact that she'd heard about a spooky game to cap off the night was just extra cool! She'd overheard two gossiping students talking about it and it seemed like just the way to finish off a break between movies. That'd be a nice surprise, hehe! So finally the night came and, disappointingly, only a few people showed up. First years Muramoto and Shizu and her friend Ginrou, but not the turnout she'd expected. Oh well! It would still be a fun night.
The first movie had been more of a parody-scary movie just so they wouldn't get too spooked too early. It was already late at night, the other stores had closed and the light from the street light outside was the only thing besides the wide screen TV. Even though it wasn't that scary she was grateful that Naoki had decided to sit next to her, having a guy around meant at least one of them wouldn't be shrieking late in to the night. The movie ended in an unpleasant cliffhanger and that was prompting enough for her to stand up and stretch.
"Phew! Well, that one wasn't too bad huh? It was kinda funny sometimes! Okay so, now's a good time for a bathroom and snack break before we watch another one. I-if you guys want to! And before we do the next one we can play this game I heard about. It's probably just gonna be dumb like the time I tried the ouija board though... it didn't even do anything," Yukari chimed, still feeling her little heart pounding in her chest even with it just being a parody, not even a proper scary movie. She crossed over the room to the table she'd set up the snacks on to grab a can of soda while she talked. The light of the tv was a little weak for the whole room, but it was close enough to see.
"Well... I know not as many people came as I wanted, but I'm glad you guys came to watch! I was starting to get worried I'd be here by myself all night. You guys are cool."

Just a Game (Naoki, Kei, Sayomi) - Posted Apr 27, 2018 15:26:09 GMT -7

Last day of school for the week was always the greatest part of being a teenager, Naoki certainly felt this enjoyment once he found out there wasn't any late evening training sessions or meetings with the team but just a straight attendance check, it was nice to sometimes only meet up for a couple minutes with the other batters, pitchers and club adviser-chan before heading home. Since he knew the location of the coffee shop, thanks to Yukari's directions through a handy text, Naoki found the place fairly quickly even when it wasn't open at the time. At first, Naoki was surprised that Yukari's residence included a ground floor coffee shop but after thinking back to his own living situation, the shock value dropped once you understand sometimes it was easier to get a job close to home, it took a little too much prodding for his own mother to stop being picky about location of workplace. Speaking about workplace, once Naoki got comfortable with a beanbag of his own and watched the movie, it was almost too criminally easy to sleep through it since the smell of bitter coffee radiated the place, the only thing keeping him awake was Yukari's screams, horror filled screams. Horror was always boring thanks to being desensitised by it through his mother's love for it, though these movies are especially less frightening now since Naoki understood that there is true horror within this world, in the form of prisons. *Disappointed*, Okami's voiceless emotion radiated through the boy's core, the wolf spirit was gauging the movie through the only senses of Naoki that bothered to pay full attention through the whole movie, his eyes and ears, even itself found the film lacking, probably the jump-scares weren't realistic enough but anything more then this was either a simulation or some real life event, for which Nao was beyond happy for. As the girl beside him stood up and stretched her aches away, Nao did the same but kept his butt on the squishy beanbag instead, rubbing his eyes and even yawning slightly as the credits rolled past. The nearly empty soda can and bag of chips beside his feet were finished immediately after before stuffing the latter within the former, properly crushing the can with an audible *crackkk* and lastly throwing the broken up piece of tin into the open trash bin several metres away with a half-assed baseball pitch. "Whatever is the majority, I don't mind either" Naoki stood up properly this time and stretched the sleepiness out of him as he spoke, walking over to grab the remote for the TV from a little ways beyond him, Nao started to flick through the other movie titles on the TV app, stopping on whatever title that either caught his own interest or another person's interest. Kei had been rather surprised when she'd been invited to Yukari's party. In her experience, parties were usually for cool kids, and Kei was 100% certain she didn't fit that bill... And yet, Yukari had made it a point to include her anyway. If it had been anyone else, Kei would have suspected them of something -- of maybe pulling a prank, or just taking pity on a loser kid like her. But this was Yukari, who was kindhearted and good and genuine and would never do anything horrible ever. As such, Kei had been quick to accept the invitation -- and apparently unlike 99% of the guests, had actually bothered to show up (the nerve of those people!).
Of the two other people who had come, Kei only recognized one -- another first year, though she hadn't known the girls name until she'd introduced herself. She seemed very nice and friendly, and Kei was hoping to get a chance to talk to her more as the night went on. Maybe they could be friends!
The other guy -- Ginrou-senpai -- was a little more intimidating. He had that sort of tough-guy look, that rough around the edges look, and it made Kei just a little nervous... But! He was friends with Yukari, so he had to be a good guy, right? Yukari wouldn't be buddies with some douchebag.
He also seemed just as bored by this movie as Kei was. She'd glanced over at him a few times during the film, and each time he seemed more and more ready to just fall asleep. She didn't blame him; the movie was funny at points, but man, those scares were cheap. Sure, it was supposed to be a parody, but even then -- throw some real horror in there! Just a little bit would've done well!
...Though, maybe not for Yukari, who seemed to find the movie pretty scary. Perhaps it was better that they'd watched something a little more tame after all.
When Yukari stood up, so did Kei, eager to get up and move around a bit. She stretched her legs, which were stiff from sitting for so long in one spot. As she did, she watched as Naoki crumple up his trash and throw it in the garbage bin, which was sitting a good several feet from him. Kei straightened up and turned to smile at him, giving him a thumbs up and saying, "Nice throw!"
Then she turned to Yukari, and smiled at her, too. "I wouldn't have missed your party for anything!" She declared, grinning like a moron. She was, however, being 100% serious. Nothing would have stopped Kei from coming -- not even her mother, who'd needed a lot of convincing that this party wasn't anything unsavoury. Kei had been worried she'd have to sneak out her window or something, but fortunately, Eri had given permission in the end. Thank goodness, too, because leaving an eighth-floor apartment through the window was not an easy task.
"Anyway, I think we should play the game first! Even if nothing comes of it, it'll still be fun," Kei nodded. Her decision was not in anyway influenced by not wanting to sit through another horror parody, nope, not at all. "What is this game, anyway?"

"Thank you!" Sayomi screamed but they were defintely not shrieks of horror from the movie that the gathering was watching, it was a yelp of excitement that descended into laughs. One can say it was inappropriate but she certainly didn't care. When Sayomi was given the invite to come to this coffee shop to be with Yukari she was so ecstatic. She could barely control herself despite the risk of being called out by the neighbors of being a possible noise complaint.
"Phew! Well, that one wasn't too bad huh? It was kinda funny sometimes! Okay so, now's a good time for a bathroom and snack break before we watch another one. I-if you guys want to! And before we do the next one we can play this game I heard about. It's probably just gonna be dumb like the time I tried the ouija board though... it didn't even do anything," Sayomi glanced at Yukari with curiosity as she dusted her black long sleeves. Ouija board? Well this is a problem, Sayomi certainly didn't know how to operate one. She wondered if there was a guide online..."Well... I know not as many people came as I wanted, but I'm glad you guys came to watch! I was starting to get worried I'd be here by myself all night. You guys are cool."
"I wouldn't have missed your party for anything!" Sayomi eagerly nodded in agreement with the one called Kei. "Anyway, I think we should play the game first! Even if nothing comes of it, it'll still be fun," Sayomi also nodded vigorously....though that still raised a certain question.
"So what is this game?" Sayomi bounced back and forth. Her hands gripping on the sides of her long dark blue skirt in excitement. Tagged: Naoki, Kei, Yukari Music: Notes: -puts on ghost costume-

Yukari had already cracked open her can of diet soda when the other girls (and Naoki) chimed in about what to do next. Naoki didn't care, Kei wanted to play the game and expressed how happy she was to be included and Sayomi nodded along enthusiastically with her. Sayomi was real quiet, but she seemed like a nice kid. Seemed like she'd enjoyed the movie too! Even if it sucked that Naoki and Kei were bored... they were together at least!
And Shizu-san asked what the game was. Yukari smiled brightly and sat down at an empty table, gesturing for everyone to come over and sit down. "So I heard about it from a couple girls on my way home from school today. They call it the persona game. You're supposed to gather yourself and a few friends in a room, join hands and say 'Persona, come here!' And if everything is just right, the rumor says you'll see a guardian angel. Pretty cool huh? ..." Yukari paused for a moment and thought about it. It did sound pretty dumb said out loud, didn't it? But it would still be the perfect way to set the mood for a scarier movie!
"But that's just a rumor. It's not like we're going to see anything... but it's just spooky enough to be the perfect game to try between scary movies huh? C'mon, we should try it!" She finished off, a peal of thunder making her jump. It was perfectly timed, and probably would have added an element of spookiness to the game if it hadn't made her squeak in surprise. The rain outside must have been about to get worse...
But she held out her hands expectantly for her group mates, giving them an eager look as she did so. This was gonna be neat, she could feel it.
Notes: Feel free to start the chanting without her, she'll mostly be reacting to the summoning of actual monsters.

Just a Game (Naoki, Kei, Sayomi) - Posted May 2, 2018 13:44:37 GMT -7

After clicking quickly past the terrible recommendations page in dismay, the boy decided to pick some kind of stand-up comedy movie before his brow arced quizzically towards the party host's comments, visibly slacking at the rumour before attempting to remember where he's heard this before. "Persona? Like an aspect of a person?" Naoki openly thought before setting the remote down beside Yukari's seat, content on what movie he picked out but decided not to immediately play, instead he diverted more attention to this game that was brought up. *Irritated* Went Okami, his feelings towards the game were visibly making Naoki scowl as he sauntered to Yukari's side, thinking this old spirit just didn't like fun and games like what the mythology said about him, wolves were always the serious type. You don't like the persona game? *Agreement*, Hm, is it dangerous to us? *Scowls*, The way Hamada talks about it seems like this game has connections to spirits like you or something *Agreement*, Wait, nothing bad is going to pop out right? *Scoffs*. As the exchange between the duo went, Naoki had already got into position and his hands had already been taken between two others. The one sided debate created many subtle expressions on the kid's face, from initially pouting, deadpan to slight shock, all could be noticed if someone paid enough attention to the way his lips curled. The way Okami was responding sounded like this game was more of some kind of ritual, and it is likely the wolf spirit was also content with whatever jumps out afterwards, the boy just hoped this dog doesn't assume he can take out whatever is thrown out. Resigning to the majority's whims and interests for this game, Naoki helped along with muted anticipation to whatever comes of this short but basic ceremony, keeping an open and sceptical mind to whatever happens during it, even the assumption that the dog was just trolling him came across his mind. Those thoughts clouded his mind before he spoke, but were washed away by his clear but deep, serious voice the punctuated the possible choir, "Persona" Whatever was the case, "Come here". Naoki was sure to not expect what was about to unfold. YUKARI HAMADA . SAYOMI SHIZU . KEI MURAMOTONotes: If I don't reply after two days, just skip me. Kei had been hoping for a scary game -- something like... Something like the teenager's equivalent to little kids' Bloody Mary (which became much less terrifying when you weren't afraid of the dark). But the game Yukari explained sounded like a watered down Bloody Mary. Just hold hands, say a little chant, and see an angel. An angel. Those things were the opposite of scary!
...Well. To Yukari's credit, she had admitted she wasn't good with scary things. To her, this stuff probably was scary. Which was kind of funny. ...Man, did she ever want to tease Yukari about it now. But Kei wasn't sure they were close enough for that yet, and didn't want to come off as mean or rude... Nor did she want to seem like she was insulting the party Yukari had worked so hard on. Because she was having fun -- sure the movie had been a bit boring, but she was glad to be hanging out with other people. Yukari could have made them watch children's shows and Kei still would have shown up.
So instead of teasing Yukari, Kei just smiled at her and said, "Sounds like fun, senpai! I'm in!"
When Naoki moved to hold one of Yukari's hands, Kei stepped forth to take the other, and held her free hand out to Sayomi. "Persona, come here!" She chanted with the others, speaking just a little louder to be heard over the downpour that had outside.
Notes: Short post is short and Kei doesn't do much. If there's not enough to go off of, lemme know!

"Persona...Persona..." "So I heard about it from a couple girls on my way home from school today. They call it the persona game. You're supposed to gather yourself and a few friends in a room, join hands and say 'Persona, come here!' And if everything is just right, the rumor says you'll see a guardian angel. Pretty cool huh? ..." Sayomi nodded as she was fascinated by this game. A guardian angel...the game started to feel more appealing to her even though she wasn't sure if anything would actually come of it."But that's just a rumor. It's not like we're going to see anything... but it's just spooky enough to be the perfect game to try between scary movies huh? C'mon, we should try it!" Sayomi nodded in agreement.
"Sounds like fun, senpai! I'm in!" The group stood up to start the game. The rules Yukari stated sound simple enough. The first to speak was Naoki? He walked on forward.
"Persona" He started. "Come here" He presented a hand to Kei which she took as she continued the cycle.
"Persona, come here!" Kei offered a hand which Sayomi gladly took.
"Persona! Persona! Come here!!" Sayomi turned red and giggled as she realized how loud she was. She motioned her free hand to Yukari.

Just a Game (Naoki, Kei, Sayomi) - Posted May 7, 2018 9:56:30 GMT -7

So the game began. The four friends joined hands, and chanted a few times the words she'd spoken a moment ago. It didn't take long for something to happen; with a loud Spzzak! the TV and the lights in the coffee shop went out, the power apparently dead. And that's when Yukari's head felt like it was going to split in two, in the depths of her mind she felt she could hear something like the tinkling of glass shattering. She clutched her forehead in a hand and tried not to react too violently to it.
And all of a sudden a voice called out, she looked up through her fingers to see ephemeral figures taking shape above her friends. I am thou… said a voice just like hers, but spoken in a tone and cadence not her own. ... thou art I. From the depth of thy soul I heed your call. I am Pythia, voice of knowledge... said the voice, and in the realm of her mind she could see the figure of a woman, her body draped in cloths and her eyes shut to the world. For a moment it seemed as if the world around her had vanished, and she stood in a starry field suspended there before the figure. And then she was back in her seat, head clutched in her hands.
... the headache, one like many she'd gotten over the last few weeks, faded quickly and was replaced by some sort of sense, she could feel suddenly a plethora of things that just clicked inside of her. She could feel the power emerging from and stabilizing within the girls, the different power flowing from Naoki and... she didn't even notice that she had sat up straight, eyes glazing over as if in a trance. It was like she could see them in her mind's eye, as the power surge subsided she felt that weaken to a glimmer. What had happened? What was this power?
But at the same time she felt she knew it, that it was a thing of comfort, like it was meant to happen... "… Whoa... All of a sudden... I can feel so much more. Like a little kid seeing the ocean for the first time... what... did I do?" Yukari said to no one in particular, the power faded until she had to focus hard to maintain that glimmer she saw in her friends. But she felt almost like she knew this power already, as if the power she had awoken made itself known to her mind.
And after a minute she finally snapped out of it, shaking her head and blinking furiously. "It did something! It really did! Right? I didn't just pass out or something or get hit in the head? ... no, I can feel it, we... we've awakened some sort of power! Pythia... I can feel it in you guys too, this new power! I- I thought that was just gonna be lame like when I tried some of the other stuff, but-!" It wasn't fear or awe that motivated Yukari's sudden interest, but excitement! She was so in to this kind of thing! She'd just never imagined something occult would actually work! "Okay, this is so the coolest thing that's happened to me like ever, guardian spirits...! ... no, I feel like that's wrong... but... I can't explain it. Well? Come on, spill, you guys saw it too right?!"
OOC: I figured right at manifestation Pythia would be able to pick up stuff even though they're not in a supernatural space, so as it died back down she's not just scanning everything nearby.

"...thou art I." Sayomi let go of the others as she felt a shudder in her spine. She held on to her head. Her vision suddenly became blurred. She looked around in panic and stopped when she gazed upon an ornate white dress. She continued to look at it until she heard something that was she was certain was her voice.
"Thou art I...I art thou..." Sayomi began to reach out to the dress but-
" "It did something! It really did! " Yukari's voice snapped Sayomi out of her trance. Her vision began to clear. It seemed like aside from the vision nothing happened to this room. "Right? I didn't just pass out or something or get hit in the head? ... no, I can feel it, we... we've awakened some sort of power!" Yukari seemed convinced something did happen. "Pythia... I can feel it in you guys too, this new power! I- I thought that was just gonna be lame like when I tried some of the other stuff, but-!" Sayomi pondered Yukari's excited rambling. Come to think of it...there was a name at the tip of her tongue. "Okay, this is so the coolest thing that's happened to me like ever, guardian spirits...! ... no, I feel like that's wrong... but... I can't explain it. Well? Come on, spill, you guys saw it too right?!"
"...I think?" Sayomi wasn't sure. "...did any of you see a dress?" She glanced around the room and hoped for an answer. No one else seemed to take notice but it didn't hurt to see if they saw what she saw.

Just a Game (Naoki, Kei, Sayomi) - Posted Jan 8, 2019 19:11:58 GMT -7

For a moment, there was silence. Kei was about to take a step back from the circle, about to give Yukari a bright, sunny smile and a "hey, that was fun! Too bad nothing happened" when the lights went out, and the coffee shop was plunged into darkness.
In that same second, a sharp pain exploded behind Kei's eyes. She inhaled sharply, and squeezed her eyes shut. She felt dizzy, nauseous... She took a step back, letting go of Yukari and Sayomi's hands, and slowly sank to her knees. The pain worsened with every second, and before long she was hunched over, the palms of her hands pressed to her eyes in a vain attempt to ease her suffering.
I am thou...
A voice. Kei could barely hear it over the sound of the blood rushing in her ears. Over the sound of her thundering heart beat. Over the sound of her ragged, wheezing breath.
Thou art I...
A horrific face, rotten and grotesque, flashed in her mind's eye. The nausea worsened by a tenfold.
From the sea of thy soul, I come.
The face disappeared in an instant. Another sharp pain behind the eyes -- this one the worst by far. Kei doubled over, forehead nearly touching the floor. The voice spoke one last word, but she couldn't hear it. Muddied remnants of the word echoed in her mind, and as it slowly faded, so did the pain.
Once she was pain-free, Kei leaned back slowly, resting on her knees with her legs tucked under her. She braced her hands against her thighs; she still felt weak, shaky, and didn't trust her body not to buckle under its own weight. Her mind felt hazy; thoughts got caught up and tangled, nothing coming together quite as it should. She felt like she'd just gotten up from a long, fitfull sleep; groggy and clumsy, and not completely present.
She tilted her head back to look over at Yukari, who was... Talking. Very quickly. And very animatedly. Squinting, she concentrated on Yukari's voice. Word by word, the world seemed to come into sharper focus; the fog in her mind lifted, and Kei managed to fully comprehend Yukari's last few sentences.
...Well, comprehend might have been a little inaccurate. She understood the words, but not exactly what Yukari meant. Pythia, Guardian Spirits, special powers... And then Sayomi said something about a dress.
...
What the actual fuck was going on?!
"Look, I don't know what just happened, but -- but that wasn't normal." Voice shaking, Kei curled her hands into fists, clutching at the fabric of her track pants. "I didn't see a dress or-- or hear anything about a python or Pyth-whatever but I did not have a good time and I think we should go to the hospital because hearing voices and seeing dresses and whatever the hell else just happened is probably not a good thing. At all."

Sitting there in that dark room, feeling some kind of energy, Yukari had to say this was the most exciting thing she'd never expected to happen! It felt like they'd touched a whole other world. And then just like that...
BANG.
vwoooom
The sound of the mall's generators kicking in interrupted the tense moment of quiet following Kei and Sayomi's questions. The lights flashed back on, the cafe coming back in to view just like it had been a minute before. The spark was gone, the noise of the movie starting back up on the TV filled the room and the cool breeze of the air conditioner kicked in. It was like having ice water dunked on her head.
"... Wow... that was really weird..." Yukari mumbled, cupping her chin in her hand. That had happened, hadn't it? Now she couldn't seem to feel what she had before... "Pythia... I don't know, what I felt a few seconds ago felt real, but... I don't know. Is this what it feels like to summon a spirit? I thought if we did it right they'd stay longer... hmh. Let's do it again, just to make sure! If that's my guardian angel I have got to get a better look!" Yukari said with an excited look about her. Was it just a fluke? Was she still riding the adrenaline high of the movie? She had to know!

"Huh...?" "Look, I don't know what just happened, but -- but that wasn't normal." Kei expressed her surprise in a very eloquent manner. "I didn't see a dress or-- or hear anything about a python or Pyth-whatever but I did not have a good time and I think we should go to the hospital because hearing voices and seeing dresses and whatever the hell else just happened is probably not a good thing. At all." Python? Was the word Persona?
"... Wow... that was really weird..." It really was. "Pythia... I don't know, what I felt a few seconds ago felt real, but... I don't know. Is this what it feels like to summon a spirit? I thought if we did it right they'd stay longer... hmh. Let's do it again, just to make sure! If that's my guardian angel I have got to get a better look!" Sayomin nodded enthusiastically.
"I agree!" Poor Kei's concerns weren't even on her mind. "Is it coincidence or did the game actually work? I have to find out!!" Sayomi was just too excited despite how undeniably ominous that image of the dress was to her.

Just a Game (Naoki, Kei, Sayomi) - Posted Apr 17, 2019 9:28:47 GMT -7

"Have you guys never seen a horror movie before?!" Kei squawked, looking incredulously at Sayomi and Yukari. "We're the idiots at the start of the movie who unleash some horrible thing on the world! We're the idiots at the start who exist only to die! We're gonna get ourselves killed with this!" Staggering to her feet, Kei only hoped that the two girls would listen to reason. "I don't care if we actually summoned a spirit or not, something is wrong here! We can't just blindly charge into this! Either something's wrong with our heads, or we're messing with something we shouldn't be!"
The jump from "something's wrong with us" to "we're meddling in otherworldly matters" was a big one for Kei, who, under normal circumstances, would never even consider the supernatural. Ghosts, spirits, guardian angels, demons... As far as she was concerned, they didn't exist.
But that didn't mean she was about to disrespect them.
"I'm not doing that again," she frowned, and crossed her arms over her chest as if to emphasize her point.
