"...you weren't kidding...there's a lot of students here...and not just from our school..." "Yep! Told you it's popular!" Chiyo replied to Setsuna with a cheery tone, smiling towards her as the two entered the restaurant. The first thing that Chiyo noticed was the usual great smells. She never got tired of that. The second thing she noticed was a familiar face, that of the ever grumpy Onizuka Kayo. Well, it wouldn't hurt to greet her as well. "Oh hey, Onizuka-san!" Chiyo greeted the other girl, even as the latter turned down to stare at her phone instead. Deciding to take a seat nearby, she gestured for Setsuna to follow. Seating herself at the bar, she left a seat between herself and Kayo while gesturing for Setsuna to sit at another empty seat nearby Chiyo. "I don't usually see you here, Onizuka-san. I was showing a new kouhai around town today." After that, she turned to Setsuna again. "Feel free to order whatever you want from the menu too, I'll treat you!"A smile on her face, Chiyo began to look at a menu of her own. --- Tags: KAYO ONIZUKASETSUNA HANAMORI

Despite her best efforts to go unseen, Chiyo had still picked Kayo out of the crowd. And, to make matters worse, it appeared she wasn't alone; following her through the restaurant was a redheaded girl around their age. Kayo could only sigh as they approached, resigning herself to her fate. She put her phone to sleep as the two girls sat down beside her, and slipped the device back into her pocket. Kayo was under no illusions that she'd get anything done with Chiyo around. "Chikabane-san," she greeted, and nodded her head at the other girl, whose name she didn't know. Come to think of it, she didn't know the girl's face, either. Kayo wondered if she was a first-year, or perhaps a transfer student. Sanyo seemed to attract a lot of the latter -- enough so that Kayo was never sure what to expect when she saw a new face. Her question was soon answered when Chiyo spoke up again. A new kouhai -- a transfer and and someone younger. Why was Chiyo hanging out with her? ...And why was Kayo bothering to wonder about that? What a waste of time and energy. Ugh. Chiyo's carelessness must be contagious. "I see," she said, and leaned forward slightly to look around Chiyo at the redheaded girl. "I hope you enjoy your time in Sanyo." Kayo's words would have been nice if they'd had any sort of emotion behind them. As it was, however, she just sounded like she was parroting some sort of script for the sake of being polite. Setsuna continued to look around, getting a look at what everyone was eating as well as recognizing a lot of faces from school. She didn't know any of them personally, but she was, if nothing else, fairly good at remembering faces. Even if she only briefly passed them by, she was usually able to remember them, even if she might not always remember where or when it was that she saw them. She wasn't sure why she was like that, and it wasn't as if her memory was as sharp in other areas; it was far from photographic. Nevertheless, it made the whole "socializing" thing a bit easier, even if only a little bit. She still had a ways to go in that regard, but every little bit helped, no matter how small.
Her train of thought was interrupted when Chiyo suddenly called out to someone else. She blinked a bit as the other person seemed to acknowledge her, though she seemed more resigned than pleased to see Chiyo. Still, despite this, she couldn't help but look to Chiyo and ask the (seemingly) obvious question. "A friend of yours, Senpai?" An innocent question that would undoubtedly make Kayo die a little on the inside, but one could probably forgive Setsuna for making that assumption, given how happy Chiyo seemed to be upon spotting her. Either way, she nodded as Chiyo introduced her her as a "new kohai", which prompted Setsuna to give a proper introduction.
"Pleased to meet you, senpai. My name is Setsuna Hanamori...and thank you. I only moved here a few weeks before the school year started, bu I'm enjoying it here quite a bit." If only they knew how much of an understatement that was; compared to where she used to live, and what she endured while living there, pretty much anything would be an improvement. That said, it didn't mean she wasn't still enjoying Sanyo for what it was. As previously mentioned, the Bubble, in particular, had become a favorite place of hers to hang out in the month and a half or so that she'd been living in Sanyo. Granted, between unpacking, adjusting to her new life and now school, she hadn't had much time to explore the rest of the city.
Taking the seat that was pointed out to her, she nods quietly. She did have some money with her, but she wasn't sure what the prices were like here. Granted, if a bunch of students were coming here after school, it might not be too bad. But her worries were alleviated when Chiyo offered to pay for hers. Needless to say, it was a pleasant surprise, and she was more than happy to take her up on it. "Oh...thank you..." Either way, she decided to take a look at the menu. "...wonder if they have anything with seafood..."

"A friend of yours, Senpai?" "Yep, she is." Chiyo replied with a grin. A cheeky one if Kayo had seen it, but a seemingly regular one to Setsuna's eyes. Nonetheless though, Kayo herself was as grumpy as ever. "I only moved here a few weeks before the school year started, but I'm enjoying it here quite a bit." "Great to hear it! If you ever have any questions, don't be afraid to ask as well~. It's my job as a senpai to make sure cute little kouhais have a good time!" Chiyo adopted somewhat of a braggadocios tone, adopting a confidant smile. "...wonder if they have anything with seafood..." "Oh, yeah. I think they've got a nice tempura bowl. Haven't tried it yet myself. Well, now's a good time as any!" Chiyo replied to Setsuna's quandary before turning to look at the ever-grumpy Kayo. "Since I ran into you here Onizuka-san, how about I buy you a bowl too?" Even as antisocial as Kayo was, it was always hard to turn down free food from Chiyo's experience. Meanwhile, it looked like one of the workers at the counter was starting to move towards the three of them. --- Tags: SETSUNA HANAMORIKAYO ONIZUKA

Ah yes, just the best of friends, Kayo thought, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. "A friend of yours, Senpai?" -- what kind of question was that?! They were very clearly not friends! Anyone with an ounce of sense would have been able to figure that out just by looking at her and Chiyo. This girl, Kayo decided, was not particularly observant. But then Chiyo, wearing a smug, shit-eating grin, had the gall to tell Setsuna that she and Kayo were friends. That little shit. She was just stirring the pot, just trying to get a rise out of Kayo. Well. If it was a fight Chiyo wanted, it was a fight she'd get. "Be the bigger person" be damned. Kayo wasn't going to win either way, wasn't going to make Chiyo leave, so she may as well stoop to the girl's level and play along. Nostrils flared, she fixed Chiyo with a cold look and said, "Oh, are we? I must have missed that memo. Last I checked, you were nothing but a thorn in my side."And with that, Kayo turned her gaze to the counter, glaring at it as though it had personally wronged her. She didn't participate in the ensuing conversation between Setsuna and Chiyo, though she was listening -- made evident when she rolled her eyes at Chiyo's offer to help Setsuna at any time. What would Chiyo help her with? Becoming a nuisance? Kayo pitied Setsuna. Of all the third-years she could have run into, she had to encounter the most irresponsible, most annoying one. But. That wasn't her problem. "No," Kayo scowled and shook her head at Chiyo's offer to buy her a bowl. If it had been anyone else, she might've taken that offer. But Chiyo? Hah. She'd starve to death before letting Chiyo buy her food. As one of the employees approached Setsuna and Chiyo to take their orders, another came to deliver Kayo's beef bowl. Freshly made and still piping hot, it would be awhile before she could dig in. Dammit. Having her mouth full of food would have been a fantastic excuse for keeping her out of any future conversations Chiyo tried to drag her into. SETSUNA HANAMORI , CHIYO CHIKABANE

"Ooh...that does sound rather good..." Keeping Chiyo's suggestion in mind, she continued to look through the menu, mostly just to see if she could find the bowl in question, but also so she could keep an eye out out for anything else that might sound even better. Meanwhile, she was a little curious about Kayo. She didn't come off as a bad person, but, at the same time, but she didn't seem all that sociable either. Something she could understand. She had a lot of trouble in regards to the whole "dealing with people" thing, though the fact that she came here with Chiyo showed she was working on that. For all her awkwardness, she was trying her best.
She had considered saying something to break the ice. She wasn't sure what it was yet, but any hopes of getting it out were dashed by Kayo's rather cold response to Chiyo's insistence that they're friends, as well as her sharp denial of Chiyo's offer to buy her some food. Now things were tense and awkward, and Setsuna's immediate response was to just avert her gaze and clam up. She had no idea what the deal was with these two, but the last thing she wanted to do was make things worse. It was better to just not say anything at all. As the server came up, she took one more quick look through the menu, before finally settling on something. Once it looked like they were ready, she spoke.

Chiyo looked back at Kayo, noting the coldness of her tone. Perhaps she had poked a little too hard this time. Instead of poking her further, Chiyo gave a surprisingly patient smile before Kayo's own order suddenly arrived. "I'm covering hers." Chiyo spoke to the second employee before looking at Kayo again. "Consider it an apology this time." She'd leave Kayo to her meal for the moment as she turned to see the second employee reach them. "Welcome to Naganoodle, girls. What can I get you today?" Chiyo let Setsuna answer first before replying. "I'll have the same." The employee nodded, writing down their order. "I'll have your bowls delivered fast as I can." He smiled and turned around to report the order. As he walked off, Chiyo looked to Setsuna. "So, how long have you been in Sanyo now? Seen the sights?"--- Tags: SETSUNA HANAMORIKAYO ONIZUKA

Chiyo's smug, condescendingly patient smile made Kayo's blood boil. This whole thing had been a trap... And Kayo had run head-first into it. God, how could she have been so stupid? Of course Chiyo knew they weren't friends. She was just trying to get a rise out of Kayo, trying to bait her into playing the villain. And Kayo, oh she'd fallen for it hook, line, and sinker. Now she looked like an asshole, while Chiyo got to play the saint, returning rudeness with kindness and paying for Kayo's meal. ...Or trying to pay for Kayo's meal, anyway. Chiyo may have taken control of the situation, may have taken control of others' perceptions of the situation... But goddamnit, she couldn't take control over Kayo's meal. She reached into her pocket, retrieving her wallet, and pulled out a few bills and coins -- just enough to cover the price of the beef bowl. Kayo then placed it on the counter next to Chiyo, and fixed her with a stern look. "I refuse to be indebted to you."
With that, she withdrew her hand, looked to her food, and picked up her chopsticks. The first piece of beef was barely out of the bowl before she spoke again, unable to leave things just as they were. "Besides, it's not good to buy things for people who're rude to you. You're better off spending it on your friends."

All Setsuna could do was awkwardly glance between the two other girls, wondering just what she had gotten herself mixed up in. It was abundantly clear that Kayo didn't like Chiyo one bit. However, what she couldn't quite tell was whether Chiyo was somehow blissfully unaware of this and legitimately believed they were friends, or if she was deliberately egging the other on with an act. All Setsuna knew was that she was beginning to question whether or not coming out here with her was a good idea. But...at least she was getting a free meal out of it.
When she heard the question, she blinked. She was pretty sure she had already told her this, but she simply assumed that Chiyo might not have noticed it, so she decided to take the chance to elaborate a bit. "Well...like I said, I moved here with my family a few weeks before the start of the school year. My dad's a surgeon, and got a really great offer at the hospital here...of course, that meant leaving my old town and moving here...but..." She paused, a solemn expression on her face "...well...let's just say no one was exactly heartbroken over having to leave..."
She let out a sigh, suddenly finding herself having to repress some rather unpleasant memories, then continued "Anyway...between having to unpack everything and preparing for school at the last minute, I haven't had much time to explore the city yet...had I known there was a place like this nearby, I would've come here a lot sooner..."

Chiyo had been waiting for a reply from Setsuna when the sound of a hand slidding along the countertop entered her ear on the other side of her. Blinking as she looked over, she noticed the money and then looked at Kayo.
"I refuse to be indebted to you."
"That's not-"
"Besides, it's not good to buy things for people who're rude to you. You're better off spending it on your friends."
Chiyo looked at Kayo, not quite sure what to say to that. She really didn't mean to insult Kayo or anything. She just wanted to... Well, she just wanted to be nice, basically. Kayo was always such a standoffish person and Chiyo wanted to try and be her friend. But, well... It was quickly becoming apparent that no matter what she'd do, it'd just upset Kayo in some form or another. Rather apparently, some people just didn't want to be friends with you, no matter what you did to try and extend that olive branch.
So instead, she just sighed and took the money.
Whatever made Kayo feel better about the situation at this point, she supposed. It wasn't worth making an enemy out of the other girl. And well, this was a pretty strong hint to just leave her alone from now on.
Deciding to do what she could in salvaging the whole thing, she decided to just leave Kayo to her own meal and turn back to talk with Setsuna, her kouhai starting into a response finally. It seemed that she had only been here for a little over a month or so and she seemed to like it better than the old town that she lived in. Chiyo could tell there was a bit more it than that, but she had already poked the bear enough today, whether she meant to or not.
"I haven't had much time to explore the city yet...had I known there was a place like this nearby, I would've come here a lot sooner..."
Chiyo couldn't help but chuckle a bit.
"Well, I'd be happy to show you around more tomorrow too! Sanyo's pretty big, so there's lots of neat places to see!" A bit of pep returned to Chiyo's voice.

Kayo was expecting something to follow -- an argument, a rebuttal, the money being slid back across the counter... Something. But instead, all she got was a resigned sigh, and a few moments of silence. Unsure of what was going on, Kayo glanced at Chiyo out of the corner of her eye. Chiyo was turned away from her now, engaged in a conversation with Setsuna. ...Huh. Getting Chiyo to leave her alone ended up being easier than she'd anticipated. It also left her feeling less pleased than anticipated. With that absolute nuisance gone, Kayo had been expecting her mood to do a complete 180... But if anything, she just felt more miserable than before. She ground her teeth together in frustration. She knew she wouldn't be able to enjoy the rest of her day now, not with this whole ordeal hanging over her like a dark cloud. She'd be lucky if she could even get an hour's worth of studying in with how agitated she was. Scowling, Kayo began to eat her food. She dug into it with the gusto of a person who hadn't eaten in days, but her expression made it clear that she was just eager to get out of here. Usually she would take the time to savour her food, but right now nothing was more important than getting the hell away from Chiyo, and putting this awful day behind her. Well then. Maybe it was actually the former. She could see it in the look that Chiyo had on her face. It was one of disappointment. It was hard not to feel a little bad...then again, with the way Kayo had been making it clear that she didn't like Chiyo in the least, it was hard to believe that Chiyo seemed to only just now be realizing that the other didn't seem to like her. Either that or she just didn't like being bothered by other people in general. Whatever the case, she couldn't help but get a feeling that Kayo was always in a foul mood like this.
Well, whatever. As Chiyo seemingly decided not to pay Kayo any mind, so did she. When Chiyo made an offer to show her around the city some more, she blinked. Her family was, for the most part, settled in to their new life. Her father was doing well at this new job, and her mother had managed to get her foot in the door at a local law firm thanks to a recommendation from the one she previous worked for. So things were going well for them. Of course it hasn't been without some bumps for either of them, but it wasn't anything they couldn't handle.
As for Setsuna herself...well, she couldn't really complain. She didn't have anyone who she could really call a friend yet, but she got along well enough with most of her classmates. So to suddenly end up being here, grabbing some food with a senpai who was now offering to show her around. It felt...strange. But at the end of the day, it wasn't an unwelcome feeling. "Yeah...if you're really okay with it...and if it won't be too much trouble, I think I'd like that."
