Encroaching Fog (Open) - Posted Apr 26, 2018 13:35:20 GMT -7

Ryoken hustled down the street as he headed for the office, cursing out whoever fucked up the paperwork he had to deal with. As he ran, the street seemed to get darker and empty out. At first, Ryoken paid it no mind- but then the fog came in.
A billowing blanket of fog filled Ryoken's vision, making it impossible for him to see.
"The hell...? Where did this come from? It doesn't smell like smoke, but there's no way this much fog would just come outta nowhere..." muttered Ryoken.
Ryoken walked through the fog, trying to figure out where he was going. He fumbled blindly until he suddenly found himself hitting a wall.
In the middle of the street? Ryoken wondered as he backed up. The fog was starting to dissipate- and when Ryoken looked around, he realized that something very strange was occuring.
The street he was walking down had morphed into a twisted parody of Sanyo- broken streets and lopsided buildings lined strange walkways, distant skyscrapers with missing tops pointing to a sky colored like television tuned to a dead channel, like broken beer bottles held to the throats of heaven. Bent street signs pointed in confusing directions and power lines tangled like spider webs hung over head. The path was dark, save for neon signs that flashed nonsensical words that seemed more like the babbling of an infant: 'Kakukukikoke', 'kotobingunota', 'roshususentori'.
Ryoken felt an icy sensation of dread creep up his spine. Did someone drug him? Was this a hallucination? Or was something even stranger afoot?

Kagome strode down the fog-covered street of a twisted city that was her own and yet not at all the Sanyo she knew. Dressed in her combat garb, the normally more casually/formally dressed (depending on her schedule) girl was instead dressed in a more revealing sort of attire than she'd prefer. Nonetheless, it had a use and she needed it now whether she actually liked it or not. Nonetheless, she also wore the headpiece that went with the outfit and in one hand was her black azusa yumi, a quiver of arrows upon her back. Walking through the fog enshrouded street, she could see oddities such as lopsided buildings, distant buildings missing their tops, strange signs that glowed like neon and were placed upon buildings, upon twisted lampposts, and even hanging right in the middle of the air. The rumors had been changing of late, to include strange "mirages". Kagome had taken them with a grain of salt, but she knew from experience that most rumors held some small kernel of truth. Reaching into a pouch, she withdrew three amethysts encased in golden frames. She brought her hand close to her face, speaking mystical words in a strange, unique tongue once they were close enough. The objects began to glow and Kagome cast them up into the air. With a bright flash of light, the objects enlarged in size, swirling around eachother before a golden halo connected them all like a ring. Finally, the halo itself moved behind Kagome's back. "Well. Let's focus on getting anyone in here out first..." The miko muttered to herself as she looked about. --- Tags: RYOKEN HAMAGUCHI

"Okay boys, you've made your point."No answers? Anna had been incredulous at first. Excited that she was able to get on the ground floor of an incident that was stumping the devil summoners already in town? Yes. But incredulous nonetheless. But now, she was starting to understand. The place she was standing was...not like anything she had yet seen. To find a place where the world changed around her reminded her of a Domain, but Domains were usually confined to a single building. Here, she was seeing every building on the street warped in some way. Tall buildings were missing their tops as though lopped off, signs and power lines twisted together, and more signs placed in haphazard or even possible places. Most of them said things that, while Anna's Japanese wasn't stellar, she was pretty sure were not real words. Somewhere along the way, too, her airsoft shotgun had changed shape, and she now held a very real shotgun in her hands, identical to the one she legally owned and used back in America. The canopy of a parasol still fit smoothly on the muzzle, although Anna momentarily distracted herself from the bizarre nature of her surroundings wondering if she was going to have to either go without it or regularly clean it lest powder burns tip someone off that something weird was going on. But, bringing herself back to reality, that was also something that hadn't happened before. She had brought an airsoft gun thinking that she'd be more comfortable with a gun in her hands, and that she'd be able to use it to distract or slow down demons while sending Mothman in for the kill. Instead, it had become 'real.' "Well, I can figure out how all of this works as I go," Anna eventually said, focusing herself as she picked up her pace and headed farther down the streets, in the direction of the strangest 'distortions' in the city. "The 'entrance' just appeared in the fog, so I reckon other people might'a stumbled in as well." That would have to take priority. Lives in the balance always did. RYOKEN HAMAGUCHI KAGOME SAITŌ

Ryoken kept walking down the twisted maze of broken streets. Wrecked automobiles littered what were supposed to be sidewalks- ambulances, cars, police cruisers...there was even a fire truck flipped onto its side that turned one pathway into a dead end. "Dammit, the hell is going on? It's like the end of the goddamn world in here...!" cursed Ryoken. Ryoken's words seemed to attract attention- the rear doors of a wrecked ambulance slowly opened as a creature that looked like a disembodied female head wearing an elaborate crown floated out. It chittered as it drew closer to Ryoken, who took a step back in shock. "What the fuck-?!" cursed Ryoken. Two other creatures of the same appearance floated out of the crashed ambulance. Ryoken tried to move back away from it, only to back into the undercarriage of the overturned fire truck.

No signs of anyone yet. The miko had been keeping her senses focused since she had entered the bizarre fog. Her ears keenly listened, her eyes sharply peeled. But... nothing. It was disconcerting to say the least and a sign that the malicious spirits must have been congregating elsewhere. The question of where was both a good question and a terrifying one. Frowning as she continued along her path, Kagome reached for an arrow, drawing it from the quiver as she knocked it in preparation. "What the fuck-?!"And it seemed to be a good thing that she had. Picking up her pace, she broke into a sprint towards the source of the voice. It was unmistakably human and therefore someone that she needed to quickly aid. With how little there actually was around here, her foot steps began to echo amongst the empty streets of the twisted maze that the phantasmal space had created. After a moment more, she arrived to see the sight of a man backed into an over turned fire truck, three floating heads with elaborate headgear slowly approaching him. With little fanfare, Kagome took up an archer's stance, drawing her string back before firing an arrow carved of cherry wood, a certain sparkle to it as it flew from her bow towards one of the creatures. Even if they proved resistant to her blessed arrows, it'd still get their attention away from the defenseless man. --- Tags: ANNA MYERSRYOKEN HAMAGUCHI

On top of being so strange, the place was uncomfortably quiet. Anna had expected the chatter of demons, but instead the pocket world seemed surprisingly empty. Or...no wait, she could hear someone. And it sounded like a person at that. She couldn't understand the words in the short time she'd heard them, but the tone sounded shocked and...also probably swearing. "Well, there's an unfortunate thing to hear," Anna said, quickly checking her shotgun to ensure it was fully loaded. She broke into a run, consciously aware of the noise her footsteps were making as she pursued the voice. It didn't take long to locate the source of the voice. She caught sight of a young man trying to hide in an overturned fire truck, while three creatures that looked like floating heads with fancy crowns bore down on him as they emerged from a crashed ambulance. She could also, much to her dismay, see someone else trying to fight the floating heads - a surprisingly attractive woman wielding a bow and wearing a rather revealing outfit. Seeing that the woman was staying at range, Anna ran forward, imposing herself between the man and the heady creatures. "Stay behind me, I don't want you down range," Anna said. Her words were in English, but hopefully the gesture, signaling him to stay where he was, would keep him from getting in the way or trying to run. (In an unknown location like this, running away from danger usually meant running straight into different danger.) With that (hopefully) taken care of, she leveled what would appear at first glance to be an ordinary rose-colored parasol at the nearest of the three monsters. That was, until a loud BANG! rang out, and a wave of pressure rippled through the air as she fired a very real shotgun shell at the monster. RYOKEN HAMAGUCHI KAGOME SAITŌ

"Huh?!"Ryoken was surprised when he saw two women come to his aid- one armed with a bow and one armed with- wait, did she have a shotgun?! Inside of an umbrella?!The creatures flinched when struck by arrows and buckshot. Two of them broke off to deal with the newcomers, while the last on stayed on course towards Ryoken. Now, Ryoken's grasp of English was fairly basic, and unfortunately for him- or Anna, depending on how you looked at it, he didn't know what the English words 'down range' meant in this context. He took off into a sprint, kiting around the Shadow as fast as he could to get behind the two women. "I really hope you two know how to get rid of these th-" Ryoken started to say. However, a voice rang through his mind. If you die here, you will leave the one you hold dearest unprotected...A sharp gasp escaped Ryoken as his whole body suddenly became overwhelmed with a burning pain. Every limb ached, and a piercing headache made Ryoken fall to one knee and let out a low roar of anguish. You swore an oath in blood to protect them...you cannot allow yourself to die in this place.Ryoken struggled back to his feet- and if either Anna or Kagome looked towards him, they would see his eyes had turned bright yellowYou are a warrior! Your place is on the frontlines, defending that which you cherish! Rise up, and deliver destruction unto your enemies!"Alright...let's go..." Ryoken whispered hoarsely. As he spoke, something formed on his face- a pale white oni half-mask. Ryoken's yellowed eyes watered as he grabbed at the sides of the mask, struggling to rip it off...it was like the mask had been glued to his face- or perhaps it had been fused to his face. "PERSONA!" There was a sensation of skin being torn as he ripped away the mask in one swift motion, blood pouring out from where the mask rested, the movement of the mask being torn off sending drops of blood scattering. However, the blood seemed to disappear as a blue pillar of flame erupted behind Ryoken, coalescing into an imposing figure: a warrior wearing a dark navy blue ninja outfit, with a similarly colored samurai’s chestplate worn over that. It donned a dark navy blue samurai helmet and a cloth face-cover. A broken silver crescent curving downwards adorns the 'brow' of the helmet, the left side snapped off. Whisps of eerie blue flame seeped out of joints in the armor like steam escaping through cracks in a machine. Around the entity's waist was a rope laden with sheathed blades, and in both hands it gripped a powerful-looking katana. The figure spoke out in a booming voice. "I am the warrior concealed in darkness - 'Hattori Hanzo'! I give unto you my blade, so that you may keep your oath!"A confident grin spread across Ryoken's normally stoic expression. He took a stance and prepared himself for battle. Music

Another arrival. Green-haired, speaking in english with a certain accent. An American? She would have assumed a tourist at first given the umbrella, but then the american raised it up and fired out a burst of gunfire. Gunfire that was effective on the creatures just like her own arrows were. Now that she recalled in the heat of the moment, the Kuzunoha did say they were requesting reinforcements to try and get to the heart of their mutual problem. Foreign aid included, it seemed. Nonetheless, she was pressed to think fast as one of the masked creatures began to move towards herself, one towards the other woman, and finally one continued on course towards the man. Gritting her teeth, she began to aim once more. Not at the flying head approaching her, but the one going towards the man. He was defenseless, she needed to help him. But wait. A moment more became the deciding factor, however. The man seemed to have some sort of epiphany, speaking to himself in a low tone before a mask appeared upon his face and with a cry he ripped it off, crying out a single word more before a phantasmal ninja appeared to fight on his behalf. This... was a new one. Regardless, with the man now seemingly able to defend himself, she turned back to the one approaching her, firing at it again before hopping backwards. Reaching into a pouch connected to the ribbon around her waist, she withdrew an ofuda. "I beseech your aid, come forth, Kinmamon!" Throwing the ofuda to an empty spot just ahead of her, a burst of light brought forth a robed entity with a bizarrely rounded head. --- Tags: ANNA MYERSRYOKEN HAMAGUCHI

The shot was undeniably effective, blowing back the creature and leaving injuries that leaked with strange black smoke. The other woman's arrow seemed have an effect as well. These creatures were...well, they were certainly not demons, but it seemed to Anna as though she could fight them in the same way. That meant that her own supernatural ally would be effective as well. That was especially important as one of the creatures went straight for the man, even as he tried to get behind the two people who knew what they were doing. "Damn, avoiding friendly fire's gonna be harder like this," Anna said, before pulling a West Virginia state quarter from her vest pocket and flipping it up into the air. "Mothman, you're needed!" she called out, and a hairy humanoid creature with the head of an owl and the wings of a moth materialized in between her and the creature aimed at her. "▓ ▓▓ ▓▓▓▓▓▓ ▓▓▓▓▓ ▓▓ ▓▓▓▓▓▓ ▓ ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ ▓▓ ▓▓▓ ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ ▓▓▓▓ ▓▓ ▓▓▓" the creature spoke, in an alien tongue that Anna had only begun to decipher. It spread its wings wide, ready to charge down the shadow in front of it. "Wait," Anna said, turning towards the man, just in time to see him rip off a mask that hadn't been before and...was that a ninja? That was a ninja that just appeared. Anna gave a low whistle. "Didn't see that one comin'. But that's good for us. Mothman, light 'em up!" Anna said. The moth-like cryptid opened its wings wide, and its eyes glowed bright red as a series of small lightning strikes rained down on the strange creatures. RYOKEN HAMAGUCHI KAGOME SAITŌ

Ryoken ignored the appearance of the sphere-headed spirit and the strange cryptid- years of martial arts training overseen by his father had taught him to shut out everything but whatever danger was at hand. As lightning flashed- striking one of the Muttering Tiaras dead-on- Ryoken took off at a sprint, running right at a Shadow while his Persona floated right beside him. Ryoken used his running momentum to jump up and deliver a flying kick to the Shadow's masked 'face'. Normally, Ryoken wouldn't use such a flashy move, preferring simple leg sweeps or roundhouses. However, those moves were suited for humanoid opponents, and this Shadow was basically just a large disembodied head.
"Jiyaaaaa!" Ryoken shouted as he leapt, both feet striking hard.
Meanwhile, the other two Shadows started shrieking at the two Devil Summoners, spitting fireballs at the Summoners while trying to avoid their demons.

Despite the attempts to focus on Kagome over the newly appeared God, Kinmamon moved into the path of the attack. The fire impacted against the robe clad Demon, it appeared to sizzle a bit, but proved to have done very little, especially due to Kinmamon's innate resistance to the fire. With the attack ultimately having been a failure, Kagome proceeded to make use of the opportunity, deciding to both attack the one targeting her and the ones attacking her erstwhile "allies" of sorts. Well, one certainly did seem to be one for certain now that she had observed the American calling upon a cryptid of her own nation's lore. "Kinmamon! Call forth the power to eliminate all of our foes! Megido!" Her words came out in an unintelligable tongue, words of mystic power in Clan's secret tongue. The strange Demon threw its hands to the sky and an orb of raw magic quickly formed before launching towards the trio of floating heads, breaking apart into three as it did so. --- Tags: ANNA MYERSRYOKEN HAMAGUCHI

"Shut them up, Mothman" Anna called out, in plain English in contrast to strange words that were more foreign to her than even Japanese from the other summoner. The Mothman spread its wings once again, calling out in an equally unintelligible tongue as its eyes glowed a brilliant red. "▓▓▓ ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ ▓▓▓▓ ▓▓ ▓▓▓▓▓▓" It wasn't quick enough to stop the screeching sounds from coming out at all, nor was it fast enough to stop the fireballs that the creatures' shrieks seemed to call forth, but shortly after, some of them would start to fall silent, their shrieks stopping dead. Only the one nearest to Anna continued to make noise. As for the fireball, Mothman positioned itself to absorb the flames before they reached Anna. Anna herself, meanwhile, wasted no time countering, and pumped her shotgun-parasol to eject the previous shell, then moved around her demon to fire a second shell with another ear-piercing bang!RYOKEN HAMAGUCHI KAGOME SAITŌ

The pulse of almighty energy surged out, obliterating one of the Tiaras. The one that Anna shot, still reeling from Ryoken's kick, was torn to shreds by buckshot. The Shadows didn't leave corpses, they just fizzled out into short-lived clouds of black miasma. "Eiha!" called out Ryoken, ripping off his mask pulling a word from the list that formed in his mind when Hattori Hanzo first emerged. The spectral ninja performed a complex series of hand signs that were more reminiscent of Buddhist mudras than anything from a certain shonen anime. When the process was complete, a ritual circle materialized in Hattori Hanzo's hands, and an arrow of eldritch energy shot out from the center, finishing off the last of the Shadows. Ryoken let out a long exhale, his Persona fading from view as his mask rematerialized. "..."He wasn't quite sure how to respond to what had just happened. KAGOME SAITŌ ANNA MYERS

A series of attacks followed Kagome's command for Kinmamon to launch an attack. And in a matter of moments, the floating heads were reduced to little but false dust in a windless breeze. She waited a moment more however, for the sounds of any other approaching creature or person. After a time though, she was reasonably certain that the three gathered here near an overturned vehicle were effectively alone for the time being. She looked briefly at the foreigner and then at the man who now wore a mask once again after the battle had faded. Retrieving another ofuda, Kagome again spoke in a strange archaic sounding tongue before Kinmamon's body glowed and faded into sparkles that flew into and were absorbed by the strip of paper she bore. Sliding it back into her pouch, she began to speak. "I am Kagome Saitō, Maiden of The Shiranoma Shrine. Who are the two of you?" She had an idea of what the foreigner was, but not who. And she didn't have any clue about this other man, nor the power he appeared to possess. --- Tags: ANNA MYERSRYOKEN HAMAGUCHI

Anna grinned as her shotgun blast tore the creature in front of her to shreds - a grin of pure delight that, though it was only there for a moment, betrayed how much she was enjoying herself. But, and contributing to how short-lived the expression was, the remaining monsters didn't last much longer. The skimpily dressed shrine maiden had managed to take out one just before, and the man finished off the last one in short order afterward. For a moment, the only noise that broke the silence was Anna pumping another spent shell out of her shotgun. Then the sound of the shrine maiden speaking in that same unfamiliar language broke it again, and the sphere-headed demon (she was almost certain it was a demon like Mothman, at least) disappeared into one of her paper seals. "You too, Mothman. The battle's over, time to go back to sleep," she said, producing the West Virginia quarter it had come from and holding it out. The moth-like cryptid dissolved into black particles, which coalesced onto the coin before vanishing. "Anna Myers," Anna answered, when the shrine maiden asked who they were. She gave a confident, but hopefully not too cocky smile as she made her introduction. "On loan from Special Circumstances, in the United States. The rest is Need to Know. But it looks like you and I have an ability in common." Her Japanese was...functional, but not the best, so she stuck to single thoughts. And immediately wanted to qualify her statement by saying that 'ability' wasn't quite the right word, but wasn't sure what to say instead. She turned to the man who she'd run to aid. "What you did is new though. What was that?"RYOKEN HAMAGUCHI KAGOME SAITŌ
