An Unfortunate Choice In Literature [Witch] - Posted Apr 18, 2018 16:25:37 GMT -7

Heaving a heavy sigh, Kayo rolled her shoulders back before stretching her arms out, clasping her hands together behind her head. She then leaned back a little in her seat, casting a disinterested glance around the classroom as she did so. Many of her peers had left to go eat lunch with their friends in other classes, leaving the room uncharacteristically quiet. Which, as far as Kayo was concerned, was the best thing that had happened all day. Letting go of her hands, she rolled her shoulders once more before grabbing her lunch -- leftover curry and rice from last night's dinner, coupled with some steamed vegetables. She also pulled a book out of her bag, intending to read while she ate. It was Kayo's usual lunchtime routine -- eat, read, and ignore the world around her. Spending time with her classmates was a waste; they all spoke of trivial matters, like who liked who or how that new TV show completely flopped. Why spend so much time and energy on such pointless things? Why not devote it to learning new skills and broadening your horizons? Their lack of maturity in that regard was nothing short of baffling. ...But thinking on their childishness was almost as bad as partaking in it. Shaking her head to clear it of those useless thoughts, Kayo turned her full attention to her book. It was a basic introduction to computer programming -- an interesting read, even if Kayo had no intentions of actually doing any coding. She was more focused on learning the concepts than the code, although learning how to write basic programs couldn't hurt either... Especially in this day and age, with technology more prevalent than ever. Tagged: CHIYO CHIKABANE OOC: It's been a long time since I wrote, so please excuse the rust! In case it comes up, Kayo sits in the front row, a few seats over from the window.

Chiyo chuckled as the talk about last night's episode of the charming new gameshow died down. It did look pretty promising and all, even if it wasn't her usual thing. But it was one of those other things her friends were interested in and it never hurt to humor someone else. You never knew if it was gonna be good or not until you tried it after all! As the small group of students passed by their classroom, Chiyo's gaze drifted over towards the girl that always seemed to remain in her seat whenever possible. "Looks like Onizuka-san is going solo again, huh?" Chiyo muttered a bit to herself before hearing her own name being called, her other friends already halfway down the hall. "Ah, I'll catch up later! I left something in the classroom." After giving them a small wave and the others shrugging it off, Chiyo entered the classroom proper, heading over towards Kayo. "Heeeyyy, Onizuka-san~!" Chiyo cheerily greeted the usually dour girl before noticing the book that she was reading. "Oh, programming, huh? You know, I've been looking into that myself as a career!" She smiled, quickly seizing upon the opening. "Are you interested in it as well?" Tags: KAYO ONIZUKA

"Heeeyyy, Onizuka-san~!"Every muscle in Kayo's body tensed up at the sound of that horribly cheerful, sing-song voice. Peering over the top of her book, she couldn't help but scowl when she saw Chikabane approaching. And there goes my lunch, she thought bitterly. Chikabane looked ready to socialize, and Kayo had no doubt that the girl was about to waste both their time with some trivial small-talk. It happened every once in a while -- someone coming over to Kayo under the misguided impression that she was lonely, and just needed a friend... When what she actually needed was for everyone to leave her alone. Most of her peers seemed to understand this now, but there still a few who needed to be told upfront. Chikabane was apparently one of them. Despite her negative feelings, Kayo still nodded to her classmate in greeting. "Chikabane-san," she said, keeping her tone polite but disinterested. She made no move to continue the conversation, either, waiting for her classmate to make the first move. ...And then frowning when Chikabane did. Making a mental note to never bring a programming book to school again, Kayo shook her head at the question. "No."Tagged: CHIYO CHIKABANE

Chiyo began to grin anyways. "That so? Seems to me like you do. So maaaybe... You're just trying to get rid of me, huh?" Her grin only grew wider. "Let me guess. You just wanna be left alone, right?" Chiyo continued to prod Kayo. "But y'know, I'm not easy to get rid of. If you wanted to do that, you might have to change your tactic~." Chiyo sat down in the desk nearby, the shorter girl continuing to gain at the other girl. "So. If you're not interested in programming, then what are you interested in? I've seen you during the tennis club's practice and you looked pretty great to me." She continued on, speaking with a genuine tone. "Third years and all. Everyone's bugging us to pick out something to do in the future, even if they haven't passed out the usual sheets yet. So, what's on your mind for it?" Tags: KAYO ONIZUKA

Kayo blinked, completely taken aback by Chiyo's words. She'd gotten a lot of different reactions when trying to brush people off, but this was the first time anyone had actually called her out on it. Chiyo had done it with a grin too, taking Kayo's rudeness in stride... And with the way she spoke, she wondered if Chiyo was treating this like some sort of game. What was the end-goal though? To see how long it would take before Kayo snapped? To see if there was a kinder, warmer person hidden in the depths of Kayo's personality? ...To just be a nuisance? If it was the last one, Chiyo was definitely succeeding. Sighing heavily as Chiyo sat down at a nearby desk, Kayo leaned forward and pinched the bridge of her nose. What an absolute nightmare. She wondered if she should just pick up her book again and ignore the other girl. But Chiyo would probably get a kick out of that. ...And there was no way Kayo would be able to concentrate with Chiyo prattling on like she was. She sighed again, resigning herself to the fact that she had little choice but to play 20 questions with her classmate. Sitting up straight, Kayo twisted in her seat to look at Chiyo and crossed her arms over her chest. She wasn't scowling per se, but it was clear she wasn't happy either. "I'm interested in the concepts behind programming, but have no desire to actually code. Yes, I am good at tennis, and I enjoy playing. I'm not certain about what I want to do in the future."

Hey, it looked like Onizuka could say more than one or two words at a time after all! Not that she was gonna say that out loud. Chiyo may have been willing to prod Kayo out of her usual comfort zone, but she was still aware she needed to watch at least some of the things she'd usually say. After all, Kayo was a picky lady to say the least. The thing that got her to talk never seemed to be obvious, though there did seem to be certain clues based on how she acted. Kayo seemed to have an interest in sports at least and she always had her head buried in one book or another. Though at the moment, she looked like a grump. It was kind of cute, actually. But Chiyo could even say she related to the whole "head in a book" part, though even then the kind of books she preferred and the kind that Kayo seemed to weren't exactly the same more often than not. Rather, Kayo seemed to always be studying something or another. As Chiyo pondered that last part, it certainly seemed to click with what Onizuka had just said. "Well, not everyone is." She shrugged for a moment. "Though I will say that concepts behind programming are pretty great. A single line of code can create a multitude of possibilities. Of course, it can also create a ton of errors one second and then work perfectly fine the next." Chiyo couldn't help but grimace a bit before she continued on. Or well, before she intended to continue. A bell sounded, signalling the end of lunch. "Ah well. I'll talk to you tomorrow then, Onizuka-san~!" Chiyo finished speaking before getting up, flashing her another playful grin before heading back towards her own seat across the room. Tags: KAYO ONIZUKA
