Hikaru Nagase said goodbye to one of the other teachers in the Faculty Classroom before closing the door shut behind him, a small satchel hanging off of his right shoulder. Than he turned around and lightly learned on the door, letting out a large exhale, his shoulders sagging. It had been a typical day. And yet it also felt longer and more tedious than all the other days he worked at Mishiro High as a teacher. He pushed off lightly from the door to the Faculty room and headed down the hall.
The last class of the day had ended a while ago and now the school was sparsely populated with teachers and students. He had thought about getting some extra work, god knows he had the work, but he just couldn't force himself to do it any longer at the school. Maybe he could get some extra work done back at home. With a beer. Or two he mused to himself as he walked. That thought made his lips curl into a small smile and he increased his pace, now excited to leave Mishiro High as quickly as possible.
Some teacher Hikaru thought to himself, and the small smile immediately evaporated. He stopped, now standing in the middle of the hallway. He remembered back to his earlier days working here. He had been so excited. So eager. He'd spend long nights in the Faculty Room, sometimes the last to leave. Now he couldn't wait to get out of here.
What happened?

It wasn't often that Setsuna stayed this later after school was over. After all, she wasn't in any clubs or anything of the like, so she often just went straight home once classes were done for the day. She had entertained the thought of maybe joining one of the sports clubs (she was pretty sure there was a kendo club), but there were too many bad memories associated with it. Painful memories of the last time she was in a club came flooding back, at which point any consideration would go out the window. At this moment, she simply wasn't ready to join one.
As for why she was here so late on this particular day, she wanted to go to the library to borrow a couple books that she knew they had, and she ended up actually staying and reading for a bit. Plus she ended up finding more books she wanted to borrow, and all in all, she ended being there for a bit longer than she intended to. When she realized the time, she had a minor 'oh crap' moment and immediately left. She knew she shouldn't text and walk at the same time, especially in the school hallway, but she felt compelled to let her parents know where she was.
"was studying in school library
on my way home now
want me to pick anything up?"
"aaand send..." With that out of the way, she looked up, just in time to see she was on a collision course with an older male. She managed to stop herself just before actually crashing him, stumbling backwards and very awkwardly and obviously hiding her phone behind her back. No doubt, the squeak she'd let out would alert the man to her presence, assuming he didn't already notice her before her near-accident. Nevertheless, she was quick apologize. "Ah! S-sorry about that, Sensei...I-I was a bit spaced out..."
Technically, she wasn't lying.

Hikaru continued to gaze absentmindedly until he noticed the first year girl stumble backwards, catching herself just shy before falling. At the sound of her surprised squeak his lips curled in a smile, paired with a humorous glint in his eye. He attempted to hide the smile by turning his head slightly away, hand raised covering his mouth just as the girl quickly put a small handheld device behind her back. Key word attempted. I can guess what that is he thought to himself. When she apologized he cleared his throat, giving him time to adopt a more neutral expression. It also gave him more time to recognize who the first year was. "It's quite all right Hanamori-san." started Hikaru, pausing as he narrowed his eyes accusingly at her. "However it would probably be best if you weren't so.... distracted next time, hmm?" Hikaru knew he was being a bit hypocritical since he had been distracted as well. It wasn't all the first years fault they nearly collided. However he was instructor. Plus it's probably good to try and instill to the teenager how dangerous it could be walking while you text. Not like she'd probably listen anyway he thought, repressing a sigh. He took a moment to look down at Hanamori. He didn't know too much about the girl to be honest*. She always seemed...well shy. If he was remembering correctly she didn't even belong in any of the many clubs Mishiro High had. He had pegged her as a loner. Yet sometimes he did notice her look at a few of her fellow students who were in the middle of chatting with a look of... what? Envy? Was she just too shy to go and talk to a few students? To join a club? And was it any of his business? He made a quick decision and gave her a nice, polite smile. "Still. It's good to see you didn't run off as soon as the last class ended. I hope your applying yourself well to your studies." Behind his smile he inwardly groaned. Yes. Forced chit chat with a teacher he thought dryly. This'll help.SETSUNA HANAMORI ----------------------------------------------------------- OOC: *I read through your profile and tried to think of how much he would reasonably know about your character. I hope I didn't mess it up. Also if I didn't say so before, I really like your character picture.

"Agh. Are you kidding me?" Chiyo groaned as she looked at the vending machine in front of her. She'd been stuck staying late today, Sayo being busy due to one of her classes running later than usual. Granted, she could have just headed to one of the shops down the block, but it wasn't like she had much to buy or much she was interested in buying at the time. If nothing else, it was also a good time to go ahead and get some of her work done in the library. And of course, Chiyo had gotten hungry while doing just that. So off she headed to the nearby vending machine, deciding to get some melon bread to snack on while she waited. And there it was hanging on the very edge, stuck just short of falling. "Come ooonnn..." She began to shake the machine, but given her short stature and general lack of physical strength, the only thing that Chiyo was succeeding in was getting more frustrated. Finally, she stepped back and kicked the machine. Finally, the melon bread fell. And Chiyo yelped in pain as she realized how bad an idea it was, kneeling down to rub her foot, unaware of the commotion she had caused reaching the ears of two people nearby. "Ow, ow, ow..." Setsuna was, more than anything, pleasantly surprised that the teacher didn't start lecturing her about her using a cellphone at school, despite it being obvious from the look on his face that he had seen her rather blatant attempt to hide it. That said, she did catch on to the meaning of her words, and she would take them to heart. Usually, she wasn't that careless; it was just a rare occasion where she didn't entirely think her actions through. Admittedly, she was a little surprised that he knew her name, though it did occur to her that, had she not been held back in middle school, there was a good chance he'd be her homeroom teacher this year.
Either way, she was quick to respond, and did so in as respectful tone in spite of how awkward she was at talking to others. "Y-yes, sir. I'll be more careful from now on...promise." Were she not speaking in a sincere tone, her words would almost seem dismissive. In the end, however, she was just awkward at socializing. Hearing his comment, she couldn't help but frown a little; she understood that he was just doing his job, but it was a still a little annoying of him to pry into her private life. Still, she took it in stride. "Yes, I am. It's just that I have an easier time focusing when I'm at home; that's all."
The slightly awkward conversation was interrupted as the sound of another student could be heard from down the hall. Apparently, she was frustrated over a vending machine not working properly, prompting a small sigh as she mused out loud; not specifically speaking to Hikaru, but saying her words out loud so he'd be able to hear "...come to think of it, I've had some issues with that particular machine mys-" However, her words and train of thought were interrupted when this student suddenly delivered a kick to the machine, knocking whatever it was she was trying to get loose in the process.
All she could do was stare blankly at this girl; was she crazy? Doing something like that was bad enough, but to do it right in front of a teacher? ------------- HIKARU NAGASE CHIYO CHIKABANE

Hikaru nodded at Setsuna's first response. The first year sounded sincere. Yet Hikaru knew that didn't mean the warning would stick to her. Over the years he had grown accustomed to offering advice only for the students of Mishiro High to ignore it or forget about it within a week or so. At first that had bothered the new instructor. Now it was just something he grown to expect. When she continued, responding at his attempts to at chit chat, Hikaru thought he sensed uneasiness from the young girl. Definitely shy Hikaru concluded to himself, unaware how he was only partly correct.
Hikaru nodded again when Setsuna mentioned her home. He felt a brief flicker of kinship with the girl when she mentioned that. God only knew how drained he felt and the idea of heating home felt extremely enticing to Hikaru, despite his earlier idea on trying to draw Setsuna out of her shell. He was about to wrap the conversation up when he heard the disbelieving cry of another teenaged girl. He turned his head as Setsuna was speaking, and Hikaru identified the frustrated student as Chiyo Chikabane, a third year student. Hikaru himself never had much of a problem with the girl before-
Setsuna was cut off by Chiyo's loud kick to the vending machine.
-but maybe that's going to change today he finished to himself, as he sighed and pinched the brim of his nose. And I was only a few minutes away from escaping.
"Well. Get home safe Hanamori-san," said Hikaru, sounding half distracted, half disappointed. He gave the first year a thin smile than turned and headed towards the source of the disturbance, leaving the first year behind in her surprised, stunned look.
It didn't take him long to stride over to where Chiyo was, kneeling down and rubbing her (presumably) sore foot. He cleared his throat, obviously trying to draw the third year's attention to him. He tapped a strip of white on the vending machine that held a name and a phone number.
"Next time," he said slowly doing his best to show an air of authority (he had years of practice), tapping the strip of white again as he did so. "Maybe you'll try using a phone." He paused briefly than added. "Unless you think you can solve all your problems by kicking them?"

Chiyo's attention was drawn away from her foot after a moment more, having only caught the sound of a new voice as she had begun the swing of her foot at the blasted machine. There in her line of sight were two people actually. The first looked like one of those first years she'd seen around the school campus, a brunette girl who was barely taller than Chiyo herself. No doubt she had been the one speaking initially. The second on the other hand? An adult man, one of her teachers during her 2nd year. She couldn't help but pale slightly. Chiyo may not have been one who liked to follow traditional rules, but she wasn't really a troublemaker either. He quietly told the other student to be on her way and then steadily walked over towards Chiyo, the shorter girl rising back to her feet properly, before tapping something on the side of the machine, a phone number from the looks of it. "Ah... Understood. Sorry, Nagase-sensei." Chiyo rubbed the back of her head, now more embarrassed than anything else. "I won't do it again." And well, she couldn't comment on the kicking thing. Punching sure worked though. "I'll just be on my way now." She quickly turned, half-walking, half-running back to the library to collect her things. "Think I'll just get something to eat at Naganoodle..." She muttered a bit, only Setsuna hearing it due to Chiyo passing her by. Of course, she'd also completely forgotten about the melon bread, leaving it wide open for someone else to nab. Tags: SETSUNA HANAMORI | HIKARU NAGASEOOC: free melon bread for teach

Setsuna just nodded quietly as she was dismissed, and went along her way. That said, she didn't go particularly fast; admittedly, she was a little curious to see how this would play out, and was only slightly disappointed that it simply ended with him simply calling her out on it and letting her off with a warning. Granted, Chiyo did seem embarrassed about being caught, but she had half expected the teacher to go off on her. Either way, this teacher seemed like an all-around decent guy.
Certainly a far cry from the jerks who made zero effort to stop any of the bullying back in her hometown. Just thinking about them made her feel sick, which is why she immediately purged such thoughts from her mind. No point in dwelling on the past. All that does is bring pain.
Regardless, despite not necessarily meaning to, she ended up sticking around just as the other girl dismissed herself, and couldn't help but glance at her as she passed by. However, there was something about what she said that caught her attention for some reason; the name was so strange that she couldn't help but blurt out the question that immediately came to mind. "...what's Naganoodle?"

Hikaru noted the embarrassment of the girl, which he took as a good sign. First it meant that the girl might actually be remorseful of her actions. Or at the very least wouldn't be so brazen to try that again out in the open. Second her tone wasn't rebellious or aggressive. Which was good. That would mean more work for him and that was the last thing he wanted today. Instead the girl looked ready to try and leave as soon as possible. "The next time I see this kind of behavior from you Chikabane-san..." called out Hikaru as she left. "...I'll know who to volunteer when we need that old storage room cleaned." After Chiyo turned away from him and after his small threat did Hikaru let out a deep exhale, his 'authoritative' look being replaced with nothing but fatigue. Had this been the reason why he went into teaching? To prevent vending machine assault? He rubbed at the bridge of his nose and shook his head, sighing. It was only then did he see the melon bread in the dispensary. She must have forgotten to pick it up when she made her 'escape' thought Hikaru, frowning as he bent down to pick up the Melon Bread. Hikaru raised the food item to his head, giving it a quick examine before looking down the hallway Chiyo had half ran/half walked down. Chiyo was already quite a distance away leaving behind a surprised Setsuna. Guess she stayed behind to enjoy the show Hikaru thought. Well if Setsuna wanted yelling and possible gossip Hikaru figured he disappointed the girl. But than again since when did Setsuna care about possible gossip in the first place? That seemed against the girl's nature. Setsuna's attention was caught by something, perhaps by something Chiyo said since Setsuna repeated a name that sounded foreign to her. "...whats a Naganoodle?" Hikaru sighed. The girl obviously led a sheltered life. SETSUNA HANAMORICHIYO CHIKABANE

Despite moving quickly Chiyo wasn't able to escape the teacher just yet. "The next time I see this kind of behavior from you Chikabane-san..." Oh crap. "...I'll know who to volunteer when we need that old storage room cleaned." Double crap.Chiyo couldn't help but involuntarily shudder at the thought of having to deal with that. But she didn't dwell on it long as a surprising question caused her to stop in her steps. She turned to look at the first-year girl. The look on Chiyo's face was one of total bafflement. "You... don't know Naganoodle?" She paused. "Wait, are you that transfer girl? I remember hearing some first years mentioning something like that before. Say, if you don't mind waiting a bit, I could take you there, my treat. It's a great restaurant in town and a lot of us from school like to go there to hang out and have some awesome food." Chiyo smiled as she spoke, clearly excited at the prospect. It didn't seem like the other girl was gonna have much choice in the matter. --- Tags: SETSUNA HANAMORI | HIKARU NAGASE

She didn't have any idea how bad cleaning out the storeroom was, but based on the way Chiyo seemed to cringe at the thought, she could only assume it must get pretty bad. Either that or Chiyo just really doesn't like cleaning. Possibly a combination of the two. Either way, it was rather amusing to watched; looked like this teacher had some fangs after all. If she remembered correctly, he was in charge of one of the second year classes. Come to think of it, had she not been held back in middle school, there was a good chance he might have been her teacher this year.
Nevertheless, she hadn't meant to speak out loud when she questioned what Naganoodle was, so she was caught a bit off guard when Chiyo responded to it. She couldn't help but be a little worried when she saw the older girl's baffled expression, but was relieved when she was quick to deduce that she was, indeed, new to town. "Yeah, that's right. My family moved to Sanyo just a few weeks before the school year started; thankfully, they let me take the entrance exam despite the short notice...didn't know others were talking about it, though..." That was slightly concerning.
As Chiyo went on to explain what Naganoodle was, Setsuna's interest was officially piqued. From the sound of it, it was some sort of ramen restaurant, which she'd always known was a thing, but there weren't any back where she used to live. As such, she was quite curious as to what it was like. And e ven if she wasn't interested from the get-go, Chiyo was definitely doing a good job of hyping it up. Well...she was already pretty late getting home, so one last stop shouldn't hurt anything "...yeah, sure. That sounds great..."
Of course, she was going to have to let her parents know, but they likely wouldn't be too upset. They always did pester her about how she should spend more time with her classmates instead of just coming straight home everyday.

Judging by Chiyo's reaction Hikaru believed his threat had landed well. He nodded satisfactory, melon bread still in hand. He was about to try and grab Chiyo's attention to give back her (aggressively obtained) snack when Hikaru paused. Chiyo and Setsuna had started speaking and it was one of the few times Hikaru seemed somewhat engaged with another fellow student. It sounded like they were making plans to do something. Hikaru glanced at the melon bread, than back to the two girls. Than without saying anything Hikaru turned and headed down the hallway, away from Chiyo and Setsuna, deciding to take the long way out. Setsuna had seemed so withdrawn that maybe spending a little time with someone like Chiyo would be good for her. Besides while Chiyo had a reputation for being a little odd, he doubted she'd be such a negative influence on the first year. He tossed the melon bread up in the air as he walked, catching it one handed. Unless vending machine assaults around the school begin to double. ----------------------- OOC: This might be my exit. Chiyo nodded along as Setsuna confirmed it. New transfers always were a talking point after all. After her confirmation of going along to Naganoodle followed, Chiyo smiled even brighter. "Awesome! Give me just a minute then!" Chiyo moved back into the library, quickly moving to the table where she'd left her things. Packing her books and other such things away into her book bag, Chiyo also got out her phone, sending a text to Sayo on where she was going before emerging out into the hallway once again. "Alright! Let's get going!"The short girl would be able to easily lead the other one around after they had departed the school grounds, leading her down a couple of blocks. Now and then, she'd point something out, usually a store or two, ones that sold things like books or games. After a bit longer they arrived at their destination, a fairly busy looking ramen restaurant with its name prominently displayed. "And here's Naganoodle! It's run by the Nagano family and they make some goooood stuff!" Chiyo spoke up cheerily after arriving outside of the store before heading inside. --- Tags: SETSUNA HANAMORIOOC: Hikaru was fun, Toshi.

Kayo made it a point to keep her visits to the Naganoodle infrequent. Not because she disliked the place -- but rather, because of the opposite. Naganoodle was one of her favourite restaurants, and if she didn't restrain herself she'd be here everyday after school -- of that she had no doubt. Today marked one of those infrequent visits. Kayo had found herself a seat at he back of the bar, idly flipping through a book while she waited for her order. Today's book was about auto-mechanics, a subject she was surprisingly well-versed in. She was mildly disappointed in this book, though; despite being marketed toward a more knowledgeable audience, there was nothing in here that Kayo didn't already know. Ugh. What a waste of time. She'd spent a whole ten minutes finding this book and checking it out of the school library, and it had all been for naught. Scowling, Kayo decided to close the book, slipping it back into her bag and pulling out her phone. Thank goodness for technology; with the internet at her fingertips, finding something else to study wouldn't be hard. As she thought of what to search for, Kayo cast a quick look around the restaurant. The door opened just as her eyes landed on it, and she felt her heart drop. Chiyo Chikabane was standing in the entrance, and Kayo immediately fixed her gaze back on her phone. All thoughts of studying were forgotten, though, replaced in favour of a repeating mantra: Pease don't let her see me. Please don't let her see me, please don't let her see me -- Tagged: SETSUNA HANAMORI , CHIYO CHIKABANE Notes: Presenting Kayo, for your entertainment. Setsuna nodded quietly as Chiyo asked her to wait for a moment, apparently having left her things in the library. She could only guess that she had initially planned on returning there after obtaining her long-forgotten snack. Once she returned, they were off. Right off the bat, Setsuna realized just how she'd never heard of this place before, as the direction they were going was a bit out-of-the-way compared to the route she usually took to get home. That said, she was definitely making a mental note to keep the stores she pointed out in mind. Especially the game ones.
Then they finally arrived at the place in question. And it looked like she was right. It appeared to be some kind of ramen restaurant, and a rather busy one at that. Before they even entered, the smells coming from inside assaulted her nose, and it was heavenly. Already, she was starting to regret having never heard of this place until today, even though it was perfectly understandable. She moved in a little under a month ago, so she wasn't familiar with a lot of the city. So far, the Bubble was her favorite hang-out, but that just might change if these scents were any indication.
As they stepped inside, she listened quietly as Chiyo explained that it was run by a "Nagano family". Well, at least that explained the strange name. Either way, she looked around quietly, slightly amazed "...you weren't kidding...there's a lot of students here...and not just from our school..." Of course, now that they were actually inside, the food here smelled that much better. It was taking all of her willpower to not start drooling right there. Not that it wasn't still obvious. "...man...this really does smell good, though..."
