"Welcome to Hee Ho Mart!" Ringo stood in his usual position as he gazed upon the numerous shoppers coming in and out during the late afternoon. Either they need a quick something or they are supplying for numerous days without shopping. Either way, Ringo simply bid his time as he helped people finalize their purchases or heat their fast food meals. Come to think of it, this job wasn't exactly kind when he was hungry.
But it won't be long until the person he filled in for should show up. Ringo had some spare change, he can order himself something cheap to keep food in the stomach to get him through the night. He wanted to hum along to the tune but he could only do so in his head. Wouldn't exactly look good if he looks lax while standing up here.
"Shiro-san?" Ringo looked to his manager. "We need you to stick a little while longer. There was a delay in the buses apparently." He nodded.
"Alright." Ringo looked back at the clock. A delay shouldn't be that long right? Before Ringo could further count the minutes, a customer came before him. His smile brightened and he bowed politely. Hikaru Nagase stood in one of the aisles of the Hee Ho Mart, pondering the very important decision that laid before him. Hikaru hefted the two items, one in each hand, as he looked back and forth between them. To his left was a pre-packed meal including rice, chicken, and some vegetables. Reasonably healthy and the meal he should take. In his other hand held a large bag of delicious, salted potato chips. The meal that he wanted to take, despite it not being a proper meal. He stared at the two items for a little while longer and sighed, putting the bag of chips back on the shelf before turning around and heading to the cashier. He took only a few steps before he stopped, muttered under his breath, and grabbed the bag of chips as well, bringing both to the cashier. There were two workers behind the counter. One, the older one and presumably the supervisor said something to the younger one. The younger one, a male about nineteen or twenty years old with red hair said something back to him, but Hikaru couldn't hear until he came closer, the cashier noticing him. "Welcome to Hee Ho Mart, how may I help you?"Hikaru lifted up both items a little high, the pre-packed meal and the bag of potato chips, before placing them both on the counter. "Just these," Hikaru said, with only the tiniest amount of shame in his voice. Damn you salty goodness! he thought to himself. RINGO SHIRO

Meanwhile, Setsuna was shuffling about through the store, grabbing multiple odds and ends. Instant noodles, various snacks and the like. Just because a girl was from a wealthy family didn't mean she wasn't allowed to indulge in some cheap food every now and then, right? After gathering a good week's worth of cheap terrible-for-you food, a growling stomach promptly reminded Setsuna that she hadn't actually had lunch that day. Granted, it was fairly late in the day, and her mother was likely to start dinner in a few hours...but whatever. She was a growing girls, and she usually had a pretty big appetite. As such, after a bit of looking around, she settled on a ginger pork bento to have heated up at the store.
With everything collected, she headed to the line, where she spotted a familiar face being checked out ahead of her. With their encounter from the other day still fresh on her mind, she smiled a bit as she approached him. "Fancy meeting you here, Sensei." She then took notice of what he was buying and couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. Either this was a very impromptu stop or he was seriously strapped for cash. She wasn't going to be rude and pry into his private life, but all the same, it seemed strange. And it wasn't like she didn't know what it was like to not have much spending money. Her family was wealthy, sure, but they weren't filthy rich, so it wasn't like she was able to spend money carelessly. ----- HIKARU NAGASE RINGO SHIRO OOC: for the sake of continuity, I'm assuming this is taking place a day or so after Setsuna and Hikaru's brief meeting at school

"Welcome to Hee Ho Mart!" "Just these,"
"Sure thing." He began to scan the potato chip bag. Guess it was a snack night? Oh well, it wasn't his job right now to judge. As Ringo glanced at the price he noticed someone going up to talk to the man. Sensei? So he's a teacher. He lost contact with a lot of his teachers and class mates back in high school come to think of it. Then again...pressing matters happened.
"That'll be 1157 yen." He glanced over at the student. He likely shouldn't keep her waiting long. "I can help you with that right now if you want. For purchase or for here?" Ringo waved. Tagged: Open Music: Hee Ho Mart from the Tokyo Mirage OSTNotes: Look at this model employee

Hikaru glanced behind him when he heard 'sensei' while the cashier was scanning his items. There he saw the familiar face of Setsuna Hannamori. The girl's hands were filled with a variety of quick and easy snack foods that reminded Hikaru of his time as a student. Late night studying while filling his mouth with fistful amounts of salted foods than guzzling carbonated sugar water right afterwards; all so he could score just a little bit better on a test. Ahh youth.Hikaru smiled back at her and was about to greet her too when he noticed the eyebrow raise. "Hello Hanamori-san..." Hikaru said, slightly distracted as he traced her eyes to the food he was purchasing than back at Setsuna. Hikaru made a connection. It was the wrong one, but he had made one. Instead of thinking that Setsuna believed there was something wrong with his finances, Hikaru believed she was judging him on the 'nutritional value' of the salty potato chips. He quickly glanced down at himself. He was no longer a teenager and couldn't count on high metabolism any longer like Setsuna could. And while he was by no means large, he had put on a few pounds since he graduated from the university. And to make it worse he hadn't exercised in a while. Hikaru suppressed a sigh. "That'll be 157 yen." said the employee behind the register. Hikaru turned back to face him and said, his face reddening a little, "Actually. Uh. Forget the potato chips. Just...just the meal. Please." Hikaru's stomach made a small pang of protest but Hikaru ignored it and placed some money on the counter. Than he turned back to face Setsuna. "Well it's good to see you as well." He paused, glancing at her cheap, unhealthy, and delicious looking pile of food. It looked so much for one person that Hikaru said, "I see you're getting ready to host a party or something. Well. Don't let me keep you." -------------------------------- SETSUNA HANAMORIRINGO SHIROOOC: Makes sense to me.

She blinked as the teacher, with an embarrassed expression, decided to return the chips. Guess he really was strapped for cash. Or he just didn't have enough on him at the moment. Nevertheless, Setsuna was in a fairly good mood, so she figured she'd offer to be generous for a change. "If you don't have enough, I wouldn't mind making up the difference." Although she'd insist he let her do it, she wouldn't fight him on it if he chose not to. She could understand if it'd be a matter of pride for a teacher to be indebted to one of their students; still she made the offer all the same.
When the cashier spoke, she briefly turned her attention to him. Placing the basket full of junk food on the counter, she spoke "Buying all of this...and..." She then held out the meal she'd picked out. "I'd like this heated up now, if you please." Letting Ringo take care of her order, she then turned back to Hikaru, waving a hand dismissively at his question "No, nothing like that. I just like to stock up on snacks whenever I have the chance. Plus, not all of this is for me; the old man asked me to get him a few bags of pork rinds...personally, I don't know why he loves them so much..."

"Welcome to Hee Ho Mart!" "Actually. Uh. Forget the potato chips. Just...just the meal. Please."
"Hm?" Ringo blinked as the man suddenly changed his mind. He wasn't exactly sure why the sudden change in decision but whatever he wanted. "That will be 1000 yen then. Ah, for here or to go?" Ringo's manager would be pulling his ear if she was here but better a few seconds late than never. The school girl placed her basket on the counter.
"Buying all of this...and..." The girl placed down a meal. "I'd like this heated up now, if you please."
"Right away." Ringo took the lunch and gently placed it in the microwave to heat. He was ready to do the same for the man. Seems like she was buying snacks for herself and pork rinds for what he assumes to be her dad given the common phrase of that. Ringo placed the teacher's bag of chips to the side. He's going to return it to its proper place after he decides how he wants his meal. Tagged: Open Music: Hee Ho Mart from the Tokyo Mirage OSTNotes: Look at this model employee

"To go," he said to the cashier, forcing himself to smile and look at the cashier instead of at the bag of chips. He thought his will would waiver if he made eye contact with them again so he made it a point to not even look in their salty, tasty direction. Than he heard Setsuna's offer. "I-what?!" he exclaimed, looking confused at the first year. Than Hikaru put the pieces together. He had assumed (apparently incorrectly) that the girl was judging his food choices based off of its nutritional value. Instead she was judging his food based on its cost. He started to have a sinking feeling in his stomach as he looked down at the pre-packaged meal on the counter. Did she believe the food was that low quality that she was surprised a teacher would eat here? Well that doesn't inspire much confidence in the taste Hikaru thought. "Uh...no Hanamori-san. That...that will not necessary," said Hikaru, now looking a little embarrassed. "I've got enough." Although maybe I should have gone with the chips.Hikaru than saw her place her almost overflowing basket full of snacks onto the counter. God she's practically lifting a whole 'her' onto the counter thought Hikaru, who was a strong believer of hyperbole on occasion. She corrected his previous guess about a party and mentioned it was for stocking up and bringing a few select treats to 'the old man' who Hikaru believed to be her father. "Well. Tell him I agree with you about those pork rinds. I never liked them." Hikaru said. He than turned in front of him. He stared down at his pre-packaged meal. Than up at the cashier. Than back down at the meal. God I hope this tastes good."So...I bet these things get picked a lot," said Hikaru, a little awkwardly forced. As if he was just talking to himself but clearly wanted someone to jump in and agree or disagree. "Because...they're so good." He than looked up and met the cashier's eyes. As if waiting for him to say something. RINGO SHIROSETSUNA HANAMORI

So he turned her down after all. Oh well. That was his business, and she respected his choice. As previously mentioned, she could understand how he might be a little prideful about not wanting to owe any of his students any favors, though she honestly wouldn't have cared one way or another if he ever paid her back. Especially if it was just a measly 157 yen. But out of respect for his decision, she chose not to force the issue. "If you say so...offer still stands if you change your mind, though." Either way, she couldn't help but smile at his comment about the pork rinds. "Glad someone understands. I mean...I guess there's my mom, but she hates pretty all junk food, so I don't know how much she counts."
Indeed, both she and her father got a lot of lectures about their tastes in snacks, but her father knew enough about his own body to know when to hold back, and Setsuna usually burned off any excess calories when practicing kendo or sojutsu, so neither of them really sweated it. Deep down, her mother probably knew this, but she still couldn't help but nag them every now and again. It's just something that's become a bit routine for the family. It was such a small thing, but it helped Setsuna a great deal; having some semblance of normalcy in the considerably not so normal life she's lived up until now. Every little bit, no matter how small, helped.
She blinked as Hikaru commented rather awkwardly about the bento meals, though how much it was forced went over her head. All she did is not in response. "Yeah they're pretty great, despite how cheap some of them are. Granted, it's not the healthiest, but, if nothing else, they're filling. Plus they're a godsend if you're like me and can't cook to save your life. Since my parents work late a lot, I often end up being on my own for dinner. More often than not, I end up coming here and wander aimlessly for a bit afterward."

"Welcome to Hee Ho Mart!" "To go," Ringo nodded.
"Here you go then." Ringo waited for the last moments for the lunch to finish heating but...
"I-what?!" Ringo flinched and glanced at the teacher as he tried to figure out what in the world was the matter."Uh...no Hanamori-san. That...that will not necessary, I've got enough." Ringo tilted his head. But he didn't want the potato chips.
"If you say so...offer still stands if you change your mind, though." Strange teacher Ringo thought as he went to retrieve the heated up lunch for the school girl. He placed it front of the school girl as the teacher went to pick up his.
"So...I bet these things get picked a lot,"
"Hm?"
"Because...they're so good." ...I think awkward would be a better descriptor of this man.
"Yeah they're pretty great, despite how cheap some of them are. Granted, it's not the healthiest, but, if nothing else, they're filling. "Depends on the bento you get." Ringo wondered if the latter bit is okay to say this but hey they're convenience store, they had ingredients. "Technically it is a touch better if you prepare your own food." He motioned to the small ingredients section in the back of the store. " But I understand about the meals thing, this place gets packed during earlier lunch hours." Might as well function as an advertiser. "Our most popular Bento is the curry one but most people eat a small ice cream with it." Come to think of it, Ringo always got the pork or beef bentos...never got to see if the curry was that good. "Oh right, miss." He glanced to the school girl. "That will be 1500 yen." Tagged: Open Music: Hee Ho Mart from the Tokyo Mirage OSTNotes: Look at this model employee

Hikaru continued to look down at his possibly good/bad bento on the counter, eyeing it warily and looking tense. Eventually he began to relax when Setsuna and the cashier both talked up the food to a point that he believed it wouldn't be so fowl tasting, but instead enjoyable. Although now I wish I got the curry one thought Hikaru and debated heading back and switching his bento for a different one. Hikaru quickly shelved that idea believing he had already caused enough of a disturbance as is. No need to make it worse. They already think I'm acting weird. He smiled at the cashier, picking up his Bento box and looking back towards the ingredient section that he had indicated. "Thanks. I'll have to check it out." When I want to die horribly from my own cooking he finished silently to himself. Hikaru wasn't the best chef, surviving on instant meals and take out. He could follow some basic recipes, but anything advanced always led to the food tasting...inadequate. Like he had missed some crucial step in the process. He turned to face Setsuna. "Well I wouldn't worry about your cooking just yet. You still have time to improve. Although if you don't..." he glanced at the bento box in his hand. "...I guess there are always other options." Hikaru noticed that Setsuna seemed far more engaged than ever before. Maybe spending some time with Chiyo Chikabane had helped the girl become more outgoing? For a brief moment Hikaru felt a little smug. After all it had been his idea hadn't it? Hikaru let himself feel that way for a moment or two before forcing that feeling down before his ego got to big for his head. You didn't do anything said a small voice of reason inside him. Don't take credit for anything that might have happened that day. ------------------------------- OOC: I'm running out of things to say/do. I might leave the thread soon. Curry bento, huh? Admittedly, Setsuna wasn't the hugest fan of curry; she didn't necessarily dislike it, but it was hardly a favorite of hers either. That said, it was one of those things where, when it sounded good, it sounded really good. "I'll have to remember that next time I'm here...it's been a while since I've had curry, so it actually sounds pretty good for a change..." She was speaking more to herself than anyone else, but her words were loud enough for the other two to hear. Not that she was particularly afraid of them hearing it. As far as thinking out loud goes, this instance was pretty harmless.
When the cashier gave her a total, she nodded, digging into her pockets for a wallet and quickly producing the exact amount of money. She always liked to give exact change whenever possible, since it made everything go just a tiny bit more smoothly. Plus counting out the money helped keep her math skills sharp, so all the better. With a nod, she held it out to Ringo. "Here you go." Then, with everything paid for and bagged up, she took a look at her watch "...oof...it's later than I realized...I should get home soon..." The last thing she wanted was her mother breathing down her neck for returning home late.
She gave a small nod to Ringo, as if to thank him for taking care of her at the store, then one to Hikaru, offering him a small smile. Indeed, he seemed like a pretty okay guy; already a million times better than the teachers back at her original home. "Take care, Sensei. See you around at school" And with that, she prepared to set off on her way home, fully intending to eat as she walked. She'd have just enough time to finish the whole thing before getting home. Probably. ---- HIKARU NAGASE RINGO SHIRO
ooc: sorry this is so late; been a bit distracted lately, and I admittedly forgot about this thread.
that said...yeah...I'm also running out of things to have Setsuna do/say, so I'm gonna bow out now. It was fun~
