Gotta Go Fast [Xander] - Posted Jan 8, 2019 21:16:35 GMT -7

It was early in the season yet, but Kayo could already feel a hint of the sweltering heat to come. It lingered heavy in the air, with just a touch of humidity too. None of this bid well for her workout routine. With higher temperatures came a higher risk of heat stroke and exhaustion, which meant she'd soon be cutting her exercise down in time and intensity. ...And that was why she was currently out in the field doing some stretches and warm-ups, right next to the school's track. No teams met today -- or at least, none that needed this area -- so Kayo had taken it upon herself to get some extra running in. She needed to kick off summer in peak condition; this was her last year, last couple months, on the tennis team, and she refused to spend it losing because she'd slacked off in her workouts. Satisfied with her warm-up, Kayo moved to the starting line on the track. Her goal right now was to work on basic sprints. Dropping into position, she moved to set her watch's timer... ...Wait! Stepping back and standing straight, Kayo reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone and a pair of wireless earbuds. She slipped the buds into her ears before shuffling her music... Which seemed awfully quiet today. Frowning, Kayo cranked the volume until it was at an acceptable level. She wondered if her ear buds were malfunctioning -- though so long as they played music, she supposed it didn't really matter. Putting her phone back into her pocket, Kayo once more dropped into a ready stance. Readied her watch's timer. Did one last little stretch. And took off like a shot. The distance was only 30m -- nothing for a track star, but good practice for a tennis player. She crossed the finish line (marked by her water bottle, placed there earlier) fairly quickly, and skidded to a stop. She checked her watch, and scowled. Too slow. Jogging back to the start, Kayo repeated the drill again. And again. And again. Each time she stopped to scowl at her watch, not seeing much improvement in her finishing time. After the fourth run, as she was jogging back to the start, she reached up to adjust her earbuds. In doing so, she accidentally pressed the "on" button. Her immediate reaction was to scowl. Her second reaction was to yelp as her ears were blasted with music at full-volume. She reached up and violently yanked the buds out of her ears. No wonder her music had been so quiet -- she'd forgotten to actually turn the ear buds on. Her phone had been playing everything out loud and broadcasting her taste in music to everyone in the vicinity. Great. Kayo's scowl deepened. She just hoped no one had been around to hear... Whatever songs had been playing. Notes: Meh post is meh but I wanted to get it up before I forgot! Kayo's currently listening to Xander's music. Tag: XANDER SMITH

❝ | I'm the one that your mama said 'Don't mess with them or you'll end up dead That type they don't follow any rules' You're looking tall, you're looking tough I'm sorry dude, it's not enough Your girlfriend's purse won't help you win this duel | ❞ |
Other than that weird situation with the giant fox on top of the bubble the city was pretty dead. There were a couple situations with rogue demons and a prison here or there, but nothing challenging. Xander even went so far as helping out some of the local devil summoners. It was somehow less interesting than watching paint dry. He compared them. So, following the advice of a possibly insane god he spent his free time working out.
He begrudgingly made his way over to the school’s track. He wasn’t averse to working out, but he just didn't feel like it. However, the old Norse god of war begged to differ. In his own words Xander was “getting lazy and complacent,” and back in his day “all Norse men raided a new village every other week in order to stay in shape.” Xander wasn’t too sure about his historical accuracy, but it was better to just work out than to hear him go on and on about the “good ole days.”
He tossed his duffel bag into the grass and started his warm ups. After a couple of quick stretches, some jumping jacks and a set of push ups he was ready to go. Or he would be if his ears we’re being bombarded by a familiar tune. What was that sound, and why was it so familiar? He felt like he was trying to figure out the name of an actor, but he didn't know the actors name. He just knows all of the movies they starred in, the letter their name starts with, and that they love Katie Holmes.
There was no way he could start running now, he just wouldn't be able to focus. His mind made up, Xander sat down in the grass and racked his brain for an answer. The music continued to slowly get louder and his memory more clear. Then it hit him. It was one of his songs. The louder the music got the more sure he was that that was his song being played. “Huh someone at school enjoys my music, that's fuckin dope. I wonder who it is-”
Xander’s jaw dropped at the sight. The source of the music was a very angry Kayo, one of his classmates. Xander quickly covered his face to muffle his laughter. The situation was too much for him. While he was flattered that she enjoyed his music, she really didn’t seem like the type to like his style. He took in a couple deep breaths. He had to compose himself for the next act. For what he was about to do next could probably get him killed. With another quick inhale-exhale, he made his way over to Kayo.
“Hey Kayo, whats up?” His polite smile quickly turned into a look of pure smugness, “Interesting taste in music you got there. How does that song go again?” He perfectly imitated the song in tone, pitch, and key,
Won't you just stay with me, carpe diem stay up late with me, if you leavin well then c'est la vie baby, I just want you for the night
He was almost certainly dead, but boy was it worth it.

For the briefest of moments, all seemed well. Kayo was about to stoop down and pick up her water bottle when she heard the familiar voice of Xander Smith call out to her. Scowl deepening, she stood straight and stared him down as he approached. As one of the more outgoing people in their class, Kayo found his presence insufferable; he was too friendly, too upbeat, always ready to crack a joke or drop a pick-up line or be somebody's friend.
The polite smile on Xander's face didn't do him any favours; Kayo was still on-guard, still waiting for the gotcha!. They'd interacted enough times for him to know that she wasn't interested in hanging out. The fact that he was coming over here despite that did not bode well.
And, sure enough, that smile gave away to something very, very smug, as he complimented her choice in music. Kayo rolled her eyes at that -- what was this, elementary school? Making fun of someone for their taste in music was so childish. She opened her mouth to tell him as much, but didn't get a word out before Xander started singing.
It wasn't just any song, though -- he was singing the one she'd been listening to, matching the tone, pitch, and key perfectly. Kayo stood still, stunned into silence. She'd been listening to Xander's music all along?! What the -- what the fuck!?
It took her a second to regain her composure. When she did, all she could do was glare at Xander. She wanted to say something to him, say something scathing and unkind and -- well, something that would make him go away. But nothing came to mind. So, she did the next best thing: pull out her phone and stare Xander down as she started to delete his songs off her phone, tilting the device at such an angle that he could see what she was doing.
"I don't know what you're going on about," she growled through gritted teeth, "I've got none of your music on here."
...Not that it would actually do much since, well, she'd already paid for the songs. Paid. She could've gotten them for free! Could've saved the 1600 yen and gotten something at the Naganoodle! But no, she had to give it to Xander. And then she had to let Xander find out about it. There was no recovering her dignity from that. The only thing she could do to try and salvage the situation was delete the music, and hope that no one believed him if he tried spreading rumours that Kayo listened to his music.
...Which he better fucking not.
"If you tell anyone, I swear --" She paused, struggling to find something suitable to threaten him with. Unable to do so, she settled on the classic, "I swear, I'll make you regret it."

Xander felt a mix of emotions as he watched his enraged classmate delete all of his songs off of her phone. He was delighted at the chance to tease her for it. He was amused at how flustered she was. He was honored that she thoroughly enjoyed his work. He was a little hungry. But most of all, he was completely and utterly heartbroken that she deleted his music.
He glanced at her, a single tear rolling down his cheek. “Ok i think you went a tad bit far there deleting ALL of my songs.” He clutched his heart, “Like that really hurt.”
He wiped the moisture from his face. He knew she was prideful and petty but that was a bit much. He sighed. “I just wanted to say thanks for listening to my music. It’s really flattering. Also I’m not gonna tell anyone cause no one would care.” He chuckled, “also your threat was very unintimidating”

Was he... crying? Kayo looked at him, a mixture of surprise and suspicion on her face. On one hand, Xander was a trickster; this could be some elaborate prank to... To do something. Humiliate her, maybe, or just some way for Xander to amuse himself. But on the other hand, he... Actually seemed upset. Genuinely upset, to the point of crying. It made Kayo feel uncomfortable -- contrary to what those around her might believe, she didn't really enjoy being the source of other people's misery. It was just a necessary evil sometimes.
"Are you... Really that bothered by this?" She asked, gesturing to her phone. Her instincts were telling her to leave, but... this was uncharted territory. Kayo wanted to know if this was a prank, wanted to know why Xander was so upset (if he really was). "Why does it upset you that someone like me -- who isn't friendly toward you in the slightest -- would delete your songs? Does my opinion matter to you that much? Is it the knowledge that I enjo--listened to your music until I found out you were the artist? Or is it the loss of potential revenue? The idea that I am no longer a customer who may have been willing to buy your music until now?"
"Or, perhaps, is it just pride? But I suppose that leads back to whether or not my opinion matters to you, despite me being nothing more than a classmate."
Finished, Kayo tilted her head slightly, fixing Xander with a curious look as she awaited his response. She did scowl a little when he mentioned her threat being non-threatening, but she refrained from commenting; there were more important matters at hand.
...Though, she did have to jump in about her reasons for not wanting the other students knowing about her taste in music. "You say they wouldn't care, but there's no guarantee. It might ruin my... 'Image', per se, and give someone the wrong idea -- the idea that I am softer than I seem, that I am listening to your music because it is yours. That may lead some to think we're friends. In any case, it creates a point of discussion, a topic they can approach me with... And one I have no interest in speaking about."

Was she...talking? For the two years he’s known her this is by far the most she’s ever said. Ever. While he was a bit miffed that she deleted his music, most of what he said was a joke. But he couldn't let her know that. Cause it would kill her. And probably him.
“Well it’s less about opinions and money and more about doing yourself a disservice by deleting music you enjoy. Especially if it’s mine.” He shrugged, “I honestly don't care what you think, but if you like something you shouldn't just toss it away.
Now that he said something true and sentimental, he could now continue being an ass. He looked deep into her eye, staring directly into her soul. “Besides, we all know you’re really a big softy deep down. Kinda like a clam. Hard outside shell, soft and delicious inside.” it took everything in his power to not lose his shit. He wanted nothing more but to laugh hysterically. But, he wanted to see how far he could take this bit.

Doing... myself a disservice?" Kayo frowned, and crossed her arms over her chest, looking genuinely perplexed by what Xander had said. "Why do you care about what I do, how my actions affect me? We're not friends -- we barely even know each other, and I've been hostile toward you since day one." It just didn't make sense. Was he the type who thought of everyone's well-being? The type who was so altruistic, he wanted the best even for those who'd been unkind toward him?
...Or was he just pulling her leg?
She was about to ask him more questions when he stared directly at her, meeting her gaze with an even, unwavering stare. A feeling of unease washed over her; Kayo had never seen him with such an expression. He looked so serious, so honest and genuine, and for a second, she was absolutely convinced that Xander had been truthful this whole time.
Then he compared her to a clam, and the effect was ruined. Kayo scowled, dropping her arms to her sides. They were tensed up, hands curled into fists. Fixing him with a harsh glare, she snarled, "Who the fuck has been spreading that kind of rumour? You? Or was it Chikabane?" She took a step forward, leaning toward Xander -- the three-inch height difference kind of ruined the intimidating effect she'd been hoping for, though. She was forced to look up at him, though she refused to let that deter her. "You two are the only ones weird enough -- disgusting enough -- to add 'delicious' into that analogy, so it has to be you or her. Now tell me, which one of you was it?!"

He stared down at furious female. His serious demeanor was slowly stripped away by a slowly encroaching smile. A much as he wanted to keep the act up he couldn't. He quickly stepped back and let out a loud boisterous laugh.
“OH MY GOD, I’m crying. That was too much. I thought I could keep it up. But then you just, walked up to me and looked up.” He laughed a bit more. “Like the height difference made that so much funnier than it needed to be.” He bent over to catch his breath. “Whew, ok. I think I’m good now.”
He turned back to Kayo. If she was mad before she livid now. Not only did he just mess with her for the past 7 minutes, he also just laughed in her face. And called her short. “Ok before you kill me,” he pleaded, “most of what I said was serious. I was hurt that you deleted my songs, I do think you should do whatever you enjoy regardless of what people think, and you probably are like a clam.” He put his hand out to both stop her from interrupting him and running up to hit him. “And no one spread a rumor. Especially not me, I like to actively partake in any trickery.”

Shit.
It had been a trap -- because, of course it had. Kayo had been stupid for expecting Xander to act maturely. She should've known from the get-go that he was toying with her. God, how humiliating, to be fooled by him, to waste so much time on his bullshit. She could've been doings sprints, practicing her swings or her form, doing something to better her tennis skills, but no, she'd been stupid and had fallen for Xander's prank.
Pathetic.
Her face felt like it was on fire, and Kayo hoped that Xander would mistake her reddening cheeks as a result of her anger, not embarassment. A scowl was still plastered on her face, so hopefully that would help. ...As would the clenched fists and overall tense posture.
"'Serious' my ass," she growled, taking a step forward. Her shoulder met Xander's hand, and she pushed against it just a little, as if to show that she could force her way into his personal space if she wanted to. "I can't believe I ever thought I'd learn something from you. You're just as bad as Chikabane. Is it fun, to waste other people's time? To waste your time, time you could use to better yourself, just to ruffle some feathers?!"
As she spoke, Kayo made to side-step Xander's hand and get right back in his face.
"And I am not like a clam!" Hands out, she reached for Xander's shoulders and tried to shove him back as hard as she could. "Now stop messing with me and fuck off!"

“I could teach you a lot of things,” he interjected. “How to sing, how to actually intimidate someone, how to fight, how to make friends,” he teased.
His last comment didn't really help his situation. In fact he was sure it just made her angrier. Or embarrassed her. He wasn’t really sure at this point. As she moved away from is outstretched hand she made a comment about not being like a clam. “You 100% are just look at you clamming up.” He had barely finished his sentence before she attempted to push him. While normally it would take more than that to knock Xander over he wasn’t really expecting to get shove. And he was far from a stance that could brace the surprising amount of force she exerted.
With his body succumbing to the forces of gravity he instinctively reach out for anything to stop his fall. Unfortunately for him the closest, and only, thing to grab on to was Kayo.

Kayo opened her mouth to spit some angry retort back at Xander. She didn't get so much as a word out before the world started spinning sideways. She tried to hold her arms out to keep from hitting the earth face-first, but that was hard when Xander had a strong hold on one of her wrists. She ended up on top of him, with one arm across his chest and the other -- still in his grip -- twisted at an uncomfortable angle near her side.
More pressing than that, though, was how close her face was to Xander's. For a brief second, she just stared at him, looking stunned...
...And then the scowl came back, and she violently jerked away from him, freeing her wrist from his grasp. She felt a twinge of pain in that hand as she did so, and as she scrambled to her feet, Kayo found herself holding onto her wrist, angrier than ever. If Xander had injured her, even just the slightest bit, she'd kill him. She couldn't afford to take it easy, or -- heaven forbid -- get benched because this dumbass couldn't stay on his own two feet.
"What the hell, Xander?!" She snapped, glaring at him like he'd just kicked her dog. "Are you trying to sabotage my tennis career? First you come and distract me with your bullshit, and now you're--" Unable to find the words she wanted, she just grunted and angrily gestured to... Xander. Her fists were clenched, and she'd since dropped her hands to her sides. Clearly, her wrist didn't hurt that bad. ...Which wasn't really a surprise, given she'd just twisted it slightly.
But Kayo was Kayo; despite being the one who'd shoved Xander in the first place, she'd still blame any injury -- even the most minor ones -- on him, and not her own actions. And she still had a bone to pick with him about what he'd said before the fall, so... She wasn't about to walk away, either. "As if you could teach me something useful. You didn't even list anything in there that's worth learning!" Kayo snarled, getting more and more agitated with every word she spat out. "You're just a nuisance, like everyone else; where do you get off, telling me how to live my life? 'Oh, you need to make friends, Kayo!' 'I could teach you things, Kayo!' 'Do what you enjoy, Kayo!'" Her voice went up in pitch as she mocked... Well, just about anyone she'd ever spoken to.
"Fuck off with that shit! I know what's good for me. And it sure as hell isn't you!"
She puncuated the last word in that sentence with a swift kick, aimed at Xander's shins. All the anger she felt toward him, Chikabane, her parents, other classmates... All the pressures of school and tennis, of trying to find a college to get into -- it all came bubbling up to the surface, demanding an outlet. She would've kicked anyone at this point -- Xander was just unfortunate enough to be the one closest to her.

He stared back at her. A sly grin creeped on to his face. “Come here often,” he asked playfully. Kayo gave the expected reaction. Scowl to pushing off him. The truest of combos. Almost instinctively she started to berate him. Xander was used to it, especially since he was the one who started all of this. But, he couldn’t help but get a tad bit pissed. She was really blaming him for the things she did.“How are you mad at me? You're the one out here shoving people.” Finally deciding to get off of the grass, Xander sat up. “And besides, at no point did I tell you how to live your life. Just giving some friendly advi-” Before he even had a chance to finish the sentence a foot was in his face. Barely noticing the foot in time, Xander rolled backwards to dodge the kick. Anger matching that of Kayo’s he stood up. “What the fuck Kayo! So you’re kicking people too?”That kick was 100% intentional, but there was no way she wanted to actually fight him. That would be stupid. Not only cause she would get in a tremendous amount of trouble, but also cause he would literally wipe the floor with her."Ok look i went a tad bit too far I guess. i get it. But the last thing you want to do is fight me. For your own sake calm down."Odin do something, Xander pleaded.
Like what? I don't know show some godly aura or something.
This is your fight
I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD!
Yeah that;s me
ODIN! Fine, but you owe me.
Submitting to the request Odin released a bit of his energy. Not enough to fully transform Xander, but enough to, hopefully, intimidate a person.

Well maybe if people would fucking listen, I wouldn't have to use violence!" Kayo snapped, not looking the slightest bit sorry for trying to kick Xander. "All I do is mind my own fucking business, but people still take that as an invitation to come and be a pest! Just like you!" She gestured angrily toward Xander, eyes narrowed and lips turned down in a nasty snarl. Her cheeks were starting to turn red, and the colour was slowly creeping up to the rest of her face. "You come sauntering over here for what, a conversation? Did I fucking look like I wanted to talk to you? Have I ever made it look like I wanted to talk to you? How many conversations have I shut down, Xander? How many times have I ignored you or walked away? How many times have I done that to everyone else at this godforsaken school?"
"And yet, no one gets the fucking message! But hey, maybe now they will," Kayo growled, taking a step toward Xander, "After I beat the shit outta you! You think I can't hold my own in a fight? You're damn wrong!" Kayo threw her arms up in a "come at me" kind of gesture, eyes wide and wild and nostrils flared. She had gotten herself worked into a fit of fury, and was eager for a fight... Even if it was one she was pretty much guaranteed to lose. She held her punches, though, evidently waiting for Xander to make the first move...
...Which he did. But not in the way she'd expected.
There was a shift in the air, and Kayo felt a rush of fear wash over her. She didn't know why. Nothing had changed -- Xander was still standing there, hands at his sides and not poised to fight. The sun was still shining, the breeze hadn't picked up, and yet... Something was off. Something about Xander was off. He seemed to exude a kind of power, a kind of other-worldly strength, and Kayo found herself taking a step back while the colour drained from her face. Her anger was replaced by fear as her instincts screamed at her to run, to get away from Xander -- away from the danger.
She took another step back, eyes fixed on Xander.
"F-Fine. Fine, whatever, I'll back off," she tried to scowl, to mask the shake in her voice, but she was failing miserably. She still refused to acknowledge it though -- Kayo would sooner die than admit to being afraid. She would also sooner die than stop shoving her foot in her mouth, as evidenced by her follow-up statement of, "It wouldn't be worth the effort to beat you anyway." Her hands found their way to her pockets as she tried to appear as nonchalant about the whole thing as possible. But she was still staring at Xander, still watching him like she was expecting him to charge.
